Write a ReviewGreenwich is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut with a population of 61,171. It is the largest town on Connecticut's Gold Coast, and this area hosts many hedge funds and financial service companies, which make finding a job relatively easy and there are also a wide variety of apartments in Greenwich, which is the southernmost and westernmost city in New England.
"Like many New England town, Greenwich has great historical tales. New Netherland fell to the English in 1664, and the General Assembly in Hartford made Greenwich township, now separated from Stamford. Even after Greenwich became the town name, locals continued to refer to the area as ""Horseneck"" up to 1800."
Weather in Greenwich varies throughout the year. The city gets 49 inches of rain per annum, compared to the U.S. average of 39. They get 30 inches of snow or more each year versus the national average of 26 inches per year. It rains or snows 79 days out of the year and experiences 190 sunny days on average. In July, the high is 84 degrees, with a corresponding January low of 23 degrees.
The town's transit system is advanced, and transportation is reasonable. The Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line is approximately a 50-minute train ride to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan, making commuting to the city fast and easy. The Amtrak Acela, Northeast Regional, and Vermonter trains stop in nearby Stamford.
" Interstate 95 passes through the southern end of town with four Greenwich exits (2 through 5). Interstate 684 passes through Greenwich, but cannot be exited there. The nearest airport is Westchester County Airport in New York State, while Westchester County Airport is the closest commercial exchange."
The media outlets in Greenwich include the Greenwich Post and Greenwich Time newspapers, the Modern Estate Magazine and the WGCH 1490 AM radio station.
A majority of people living in Greenwich are well-off and work in finance. So, living there can be pricey. It's a beautiful city, where residents enjoy boating and golfing. It tends to be a close-knit city and perhaps a bit insular until you find your place in the scene. Luxury apartments here are state of the art, which is reflected in the rents.
Landmarks in Greenwich include The Great Captain Island Lighthouse and Putnam Cottage. The Lighthouse is located on Great Captain Island, off the coast of Greenwich. The 17.2-acre island is part of a cluster of islands including Little Captain and Wee Captain Islands. Putnam House is associated with General Israel Putnam, who heroically escaped from the British during the Revolutionary War.
Here are some of the best things to do in Greenwich. The Bruce Museum by Greenwich Harbor has both science and art exhibits. Its artifacts include the fields of decorative art, anthropology, fine art and natural history. The Bush-Holley House is where the first art colony in Connecticut sprouted up and is also the former home of American Impressionist art. It now houses the Greenwich Historical Society. Tours are available and worthwhile. Todd's point in Old Greenwich is was formerly the water-front estate of Innis Arden, which belonged to wealthy New Yorker J. Kennedy Tod. Greenwich Point Park has fantastic beaches with long walking trails.
The Serendipity Food and Wine festival takes place in September, while the Greenwich and Docklands festival is a free annual outdoor performing arts festival, that takes place in June.
Visit nearby Stamford to enjoy a slower pace, with quiet coves and parks with nature walks, this is a great place to get away from the high-brow business world in Greenwich for a quick weekend.
Some of the best neighborhoods for Greenwich apartments include Old Greenwich, East Village, Tribeca and Cos Cob. Old Greenwich was the historic original location of the city. It had a lot of industrial activity going on in the 1950's and 1960's, but is now largely a historical and residential area. East Village, Tribeca and Cos Cob each have their own postal code and are among the top 25 most expensive neighborhoods in America. If you can swing the rents here, you will have access to some of the finest schools, restaurant and culture in the world, with sophisticated neighbors from the finance industry and a Wall Street vibe, this town is a complex jewel worth pursuing.
