Las Cruces Overview

As an economic and geographic center, Las Cruces is home to many historical, economic and cultural backdrops. It has never been a better time to rent Las Cruces apartments as the unique combination of these three makes it a very exciting place to live as well as a city on the rise with a lot of future potential growth.

What is the history of Las Cruces?

Initially inhabited by the Manso and Apache peoples, Las Cruces was colonized by Spanish settlers during the late 16th century after Juan de Oñate claimed all of the lands north of the Rio Grande for Spain. During the 19th century, Las Cruces would come into its current namesake at the end of the Mexican-American War when the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo established the United States as the owner of the Texas territories.

How is the weather in Las Cruces?

When you arrive in Las Cruces, you can expect a desert climate with temperatures reaching the triple digits during the summertime and going as low as 29 degrees during the colder winter nights. Precipitation is very light during the summer months while winter rains result in little snow that melts away in a few hours at most.

How do I get around town?

Today, Las Cruces has firmly planted itself as a staple of southwest infrastructure with transportation via car, train and bus all popular methods of getting to and from different locations. In order to get in and around the city, residents and people living in the areas have the option to take multiple major highways including Interstate-10 (east-west travel, south-southeast towards El Paso, Texas and west towards Tuscon, Arizona, Interstate-25 (north-south travel, north towards Alburqurue), and US Route 70 (east-west travel, northeast towards Alamogordo, merges with Interstate-10 to the west).

What is the Las Cruces commute like?

Additionally, train services can be found at the Burlington Santa Fe Railway station that runs from Belen, New Mexico to El Paso, Texas. If you are a fan of public transport, Las Cruces operates on a ROADRunner transit system that operates on eight routes Mondays through Saturdays. For people coming out of the state, the Las Cruces International Airport and El Paso International airport are the two major points of air travel.

What are the local media outlets?

"Some of the best ways to figure out the weather ahead of time are to consult the CLC TV cable channel 20 that gives you the most up to date and important local news reporting. The television channel also covers the ""City Beat"", a monthly magazine hosted by Jennifer Martinez that covers all of the latest trends popping up in the Las Cruces area. "

Why live in Las Cruces, NM?

Las Cruces is a fantastic place to live if you are looking for that Southwest lifestyle. Desert and mountain views, outdoor adventure, and proximity to other Southwest cities like El Paso and Albuquerque, makes Las Cruces a little oasis for many.

What Las Cruces landmarks should I see?

"Some other things you might be able to find in the ""City Beat"" are the most important historical and cultural landmarks to visit. Some of these include the Fort Selden State Monument, known for being the boyhood home of Douglas MacArthur and the Space Murals museum which has scale models of the Space Shuttle and the Space Station Freedom. Las Cruces is also known as a research and educational hub with New Mexico State University and the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine paving the way as some of the top research and medical institutions in New Mexico. "

What is there to do around Las Cruces?

Once you've had the chance to explore the different landmarks Las Cruces has to provide, you'll find yourself interested in all the activities this city has to provide. You might find yourself attending one of the New Mexico State Aggies basketball or football game or perhaps you could find yourself as a background extra on the newest Hollywood film. Thanks to New Mexico's tax incentives, many film productions have made their way to Las Cruces including Clint Eastwood's latest The Mule.

Any annual festivals or Las Cruces events to know?

"You might also find yourself taking part in some of the annual festivals that are culturally significant to the Las Cruces area like ""The Whole Enchilada Festival"" that attracts nearly 50,000 attendees every year. The festival includes creating a giant, record-smashing 10+ feet in diameter enchilada that is cut up and served for free to attendees. "

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

So if you plan on renting in Las Cruces, you'll be pleasantly surprised that there are a wide variety of activities and things to do all over the city. Top locations to live include Mesilla, Doña Ana, and the White Sands Missle Range. These locations are all noted for their proximity to the city center, a wide range of activities, as well as being the top school districts in the area for potential residents with children. And if you need time away from the area, you can drive out to the Oregan Mountains-Desert Peak National Monuments for a hiking day trip.

Where is the best place to move in Las Cruces?
