Panama City Overview

Located snugly between the hubs of Tallahassee and Pensacola, apartments in Panama City are a great way to get to know Florida. Originally going by the clunky name Floriopolis, Panama City has since blossomed into a world-class destination worthy of its new moniker.

What is the history of Panama City?

Incorporated back in the early 1900s, Panama City is rumored to have sprung to life as an interest-generating word associate of the popular Panama Canal. Real estate developers seized on the pitch, often proudly noting that the city lies directly in the line between the popular South American city and Chicago. Panama City also boasts being a close mainland port to the Caribbean entrance of the famed canal.

How is the weather in Panama City?

Considered to be a humid, subtropic climate, those living in Panama City apartments can expect brief, mild winters and lengthy, extended summers marked by warm temps and sometimes sticky conditions. Hurricanes are also an occasional hazard in the area, although by no means a constant threat.

How do I get around town?

The Baytown Trolley serves weekly from 6am to 7pm, and the area Greyhound Bus line offers rides to neighboring cities with ease. The Bay Line Railroad also runs an 80+ mile stretch into Alabama, and the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport offers flights from such carriers as Delta, United and Southwest. Most residents of Panama City apartments are car owners, although bicycling has become more and more popular.

What is the Panama City commute like?

The traffic in Panama City is about what one would expect from a Florida city of its size, and is generally an easy one for most residents. Occasional construction snarls and accidents may boost the likely-hood of delays, but overall traffic tends to be light. US Highway 98 is the most used east-to-west thoroughfare, while FL-77 runs north to south.

What are the local media outlets?

The News Herald is the primary place for print news in the city, while a number of broadcast affiliates deliver feeds from popular programming on networks like CBS and FOX. Island 106 and Talk WFLA are both popular radio stations, although a multitude of others cater to tastes running from classic rock to easy listening.

Why live in Panama City, FL?

From the gorgeous beaches to the exciting nightlife, Panama City is an idyllic slice of the Sunshine State. With a reasonable cost of living and an on-the-move economic growth rate, this Florida hot spot has been increasing in popularity in recent years with good measure. With a large number of industries including ship building and military calling the area home, Panama City apartments make an easy commute for those in the market for a new career and budding families.

What Panama City landmarks should I see?

Naturally the top landmark in Panama City would be the beach, which sees thousands of beach loving tourists and offers plenty of fun year round. Some other great landmarks to discover around town would be the County Pier, the Panama City 9/11 Memorial and the Southernmost Union Soldier monument.

What is there to do around Panama City?

With the sea right at your door, finding plenty to do in Panama City has never been easier than hitting the beach. Take a deep sea fishing trip, or spend a lazy afternoon with your favorite book among the dunes, with only the ocean as your soundtrack. Culinary fans will find much to celebrate in Panama City as well, with a large number of seafood and steak houses lining the downtown corridor. Live music can be discovered with ease on most weekends in Panama City, and the Panama City Mall near Pier Park is simply a must-visit for those on the hunt for fashionable bargains. Shipwreck Island Water Park is a great way to beat the heat, and while Barnacle Bay is a fantastic place to take the kids for mini-golf and lazy rivers.

Any annual festivals or Panama City events to know?

The Blue Crab Festival draws a large crowd of seafood-hungry revelers every October to Panama City, while the Chili Vibrations Music Festival offers up mellow vibes and a laid back ambiance all its own every fall. The annual Pirate Fest is especially popular with the college crowd, as is the Mardi Gras parades that dominate the downtown area every spring.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Florida is called the Sunshine State for good reason, with plenty of neighboring opportunities for fun getaways. Drive to Orlando for the Magic Kingdom and other theme parks, or head north to the wooded scenic beauty of Valdosta, GA, both easy travel distances from many Panama City apartments.

Where is the best place to move in Panama City?

Panama City is divided by geographic location like most major cities of its scope, with a majority of the Downtown strip dedicated to businesses and civic industry, with the beachfront catering to higher end homes and a majority of working class families calling the interior of the city home in some of the many options for apartments in Panama City and the surrounding area. Beach lovers can also find great apartment deals within walking distance of the sand and the sun as well. Regardless of where you end up, one thing is for sure - there's nowhere quite like Panama City!
