Your Guide to Apartments in South Austin
Barton Springs is such a large part of the Austin apartment-ite experience, it might as well be dubbed the "aqua tourist information center". Not that the locals don't lay claim to the swimming area as their own; one will be hard-pressed to find a larger gathering of cannon-balling hipsters, bikini-clad gigglers and relaxing old timers than on a given weekend at Barton. Which makes it the perfect diversion from spending Sunday dusting your apartment like you planned.
Over 900 feet of spring-fed water encompass the Springs, keeping the H2O a refreshing (and borderline manhood-shrinking, at least initially) 68 degrees all year long. A true natural wonder, the smooth rock bottom is accented by stairs and diving boards, making it one of the most unique swims you're likely to ever take. And remember that old film The Getaway with Steve McQueen? Yup, large portions of it were shot here.
Opening at 5 a.m. for the more sprightly among us, and closed on Thursday for cleaning, Barton Springs is a mandatory trip for even the least-aquatic among us. So quit being lazy around your Austin apartment, get outside and get some sunshine at Barton Springs.
