Longmont Overview

Snugly located in the confines of Boulder County, Longmont boasts a population of around 85,000 proud residents. Taking its namesake from the scenic Longs Peak Mountains, Longmont efforlessly combines scenic beauty with an impressive array of amenities and convenience.

What is the history of Longmont?

Founded in 1871, Longmont was the first true planned community in Boulder County. Agriculture proved the primary resource in the city, and by the 1960s IBM and other tech companies had established a foothold in the area. GE Energy Company moved to the city in the 2000s, and helped spurn a revitalization of the downtown scene.

How is the weather in Longmont?

Those residing in Longmont apartments can enjoy four distinct seasons, with snow commonplace in the winter months and sometimes stretching as long as into May. Summers are quite pleasant indeed, offering sunny days and comfortable evenings. Spring brings with it a decent chance of precipitation, altough heavy rainfall is uncommon.

How do I get around town?

RTD Transit provides bus service to the city, although many living in Longmont rentals prefer to use a personal car or truck for most daily needs. FLEX regional bus service connects to further destinations such as Fort Collins, and bicycling is hugely popular in the city. Denver International Airport as well as Boulder Airport are both popular options when it comes to sky travel, and a commuter train runs from downtown Denver straight to the airport as well.

What is the Longmont commute like?

A number of state routes zig-zag across town, including 287 and the 119. Both tend to move at a steady pace, and Interstate 25 runs north to south just to the east of the city, offering a direct path to Denver and beyond. The famed Route 66 runs to the north, and while most roadways tend to avoid much in the way of gridlock, the interstate can see some congestion on prime commuter times.

What are the local media outlets?

Print news is handled by both the 'Longmont Observer' as well as the 'Longmont Times-Call', and radio stations including KGUD, KKFN and KRCN dominate the local airwaves. NPR and sporting talk formats are also readily available to Longmont apartments for rent, as are most major netork television options.

Why live in Longmont, CO?

From a thriving craft brewery scene to an impressive school system that consistently makes the grade, Longmont apartments are an excellent way to get to know the great state of Colorado. Seagate Technologies is a major employer in the city, and Longmont's close proximity to both Denver and greater Boulder means residents will never be lacking for nearby shopping and nightlife options. Melding natural landscape beauty with plenty of distinct ambiance all its own, life in a Longmont apartment is a great way to experience all the mid-west has to offer.

What Longmont landmarks should I see?

The world's largest sticker ball can be found in the city, and Oskar Blues Brewery is a beer-lovers' dream. The Longmont Public Library collects an impressive assortment of literature, and the St. Vrain Historical Society can be found in a church that dates all the way back to the late 1800s, both just a short reach from numerous apartmetns for rent in Longmont.

What is there to do around Longmont?

Enjoy a night of performance with a visit to the Longmont Performing Arts Center, or test your bravery with a session at the popular Mile-Hi Sky Dive Center, each within driving distance of several Longmont rentals. Take your bike for a spin on one of the many trails that line the public parks or nearby reservoir, and The Roost is a great place to enjoy some pub food and cocktails with friends.

Any annual festivals or Longmont events to know?

The High Plains Comedy Festival is a short ride away and takes over an entire weekend every fall, with several brewery fests unsuprisingly also calling the city home. The Longmont Farmer's Market is an ongoing event every month as well, complete with arts, crafts and penty of homegrown produce.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Head to the nearby Rocky Mountain National Park for some spectacular sightseeing and camping, with the beauty of Colorado Springs not far away as well. Denver's museums and art galleries make an excellent way to spend a weekend, and Estes Park offers glorious mountain peaks and the famed Stanley Hotel of Stephen King's 'The Shining' fame.

Where is the best place to move in Longmont?

From stately 3-bedroom family rentals in Longmont that are close to schools and shopping, to economic one-bedroom lofts complete with amenities such as onsite gym and plenty of reserved parking, this thriving Colorado city is a great place to find yourself in.
