Settled in the late 1800s and primary known as an agricultural center for corn and cotton, Schertz truly came into its own with the addition of the San Antonio Railroad in 1876. The city's first school and post office soon followed, and by the early 1900s Schertz was well on its way to becoming a popular locale. A pharmacy and a hospital were soon completed, and the completion of the Randolph Airforce Base in the 1920s yielded even more residents to the city. Officially incorporated in 1958, Schertz remains a growing hotspot of the great state of Texas.

How is the weather in Schertz?

Like much of the rest of the state, those residing in Schertz apartments can expect hot and lengthy summers. Snow is a true rarity in the region, and spring rains are commonplace.

How do I get around town?

Much of the San Antonio bus system services the city, and while most residents of apartments in Schertz claim ownership of a car or truck, taxis are readily available. The nearby San Antonio Airport offers a bevy of domestic and international flights every day, and extended Mega Bus service to Houston and beyond can be found with ease.

Book ended by the hubs of Interstate 35 and I-10, getting around Schertz is truly a breeze. Rural roads like 1518 zig zag the city limits, with Rt. 78 heading direct to nearby Cibolo. Those commuting via I-35 to San Antonio can expect daily delays during peak hours, with road construction and fender benders a constant. I-10 tends to move a bit more briskly, but is still subject to typical sluggishness during the 9-to-5 commute.

What are the local media outlets?

The 'Northeast Herald' and the 'San Antonio Express' both service print news to the city, with a large assortment of radio genres at Schertz rental residents' fingertips as well. From jazz to talk, classic rock to country, the airwaves are diverse in this Texas town. Most major network affiliates are easily found as well when it comes to broadcasting, with FOX, ABC and more readily available.

The Town Hall acts as a monument to living history, and the nearby Randolph's Airforce Base is a sight to behold. Crescent Bend Nature Park is a great way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon, and Pickrell Park is a popular family outing on most weekends as well.

Hunt for bargains at Bussey's Flea Market, or take the short drive to San Antonio's famed Riverwalk, where shopping, restaurants and the oh-so-unforgettable Alamo are all within reach. Sea World is another nearby exciting excursion, or simply enjoy the famous meatloaf and some town gossip at Abel's Diner.

The Doggie Dash is a popular event held every May, with proceeds going to benefit annual animal shelters. The aptly named Schertz Fest gathers food vendors, crafts and live music every autumn, and Absolute Jazz draws fans of the genre from far and wide annually.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Hit I-10 West for a trip to quaint Texas towns such as Dripping Springs, or continue along the way to the glorious nature of Big Bend Park. Hit the southern coast of Texas for some fun in the sun, or keep it regional with a long weekend of thrills at the roller coaster palace of 6 Flags Fiesta Texas.
