Serving a district that combines the areas of Channelview, Deer Park, Galena Park, La Porte, Pasadena, Sheldon and Clear Creek, San Jacinto College is currently in its 46th session. Originally opened using renovated buildings in Pasadena in 1962 the institution has grown to 3 major campus sites throughout Houston and Pasadena as well as extension sites throughout the region as well. Due to its ever increasing enrollment voter's in 1999 approved a $91 million obligation bond which helped to build 6 new buildings and make major improvements to many others.
San Jacinto is dedicated to providing a quality education for students using highly qualified faculty to train and teach. Over 16 different programs are offered by the college which include: Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, Business Management and Administration, Finance, Health Science, Manufacturing, and Human Services just to name a few. Their driving goal is to meet the needs of the constituents in the district by providing a wide range of courses like college transfer courses and job preparation courses.
In the 2008-2009 school year tuition and fees were approximately $1438 for 16 hours per semester for in district students. Out of district students will pay $1838 for 16 hours.
The institution does not provide housing for its students, but its campus locations are excellent spots to find apartments that will fit your needs. Houston, as well as its surrounding areas are stocked full of apartments that offer lists of amenities and features that can fir every student's specific need. Living in their own apartment setting gives students freedom and privacy which are sometimes absent when dealing with residence halls. Students can also choose who to roommate with if need be instead of one being assigned as in university dorms.
