It's been a long day at work, and you stagger through the door of your apartment, crashing into the nearest available sofa. With a sigh you head to the kitchen, opening the refrigerator door only to be greeted by a few condiments and some leftover Chinese food that appears, judging from the smell, to have been crafted during the Ming dynasty. You need some dinner, and pronto. Somewhere relaxed yet not fast food, a place where you can expect quality service but low prices, and definitely, given your weary state of mind, somewhere within easy driving distance of your apartment. And then it hits you...Rockne's of course! A longtime staple of Akron's restaurant scene, Rockne's Pub has expanded to a number of locations throughout Ohio over the years for good reason. Offering the ease and affordability of a competing chain such as Applebee's or Chili's without the impersonal ambiance, Rockne's has crafted a diverse menu that keeps the locals coming back for more. Despite the misleading 'pub' moniker, Rockne's is a family style restaurant through and through. Sure, you can order from a selection of beers on tap, or sip a glass of wine with your meal, but the focus is firmly placed upon quality food ingredients and friendly, efficient service. Rockne's salads are enormous and legendary, with close to fifteen (!) different varieties available and topped with everything from bean sprouts to steak. Soup and bisque are also in-house favorites, combining such delectable ingredients as mushrooms, chives, sweet cream and even butternut squash to yield some of the most hearty stews you're likely to find in the Akron area. And in addition to the usual sandwiches and burgers one would expect, this working class pub also offers surprising rarities such as chicken stir-fry and fettuccini alfredo. Regardless of what you order, one thing is clear - Rockne's Pub is a perfect dining spot for Akron-area apartment-ites.
