My NYC Apartment, NOT!!!
August 1, 2015I used to live in New York City. I don't anymore. I live in Hartford, CT. For the longest time when I moved back to Hartford I would imagine the front room looking out onto Central Park just to keep me connected to the city. Quite honestly I live in the type of apartment that if it did look out onto Central Park it would be worth a fortune to live here. Hard wood floors, french doors, an old claw foot tub, built in glass-pained cabinets in the kitchen, and high ceilings grace this apartment's ...rooms. I love the apartment where I live. I love the character. And after the last seven or eight years of living here I even accept the fact that my front room looks out onto an unknown city street that nobody has ever heard of, minus of course the pizza shop across the street called NY, NY Pizza! Ok so it isn't the park, but at least it is a little slice of the city as a view...lol. I am not rich. I'm not even what you would typically call middle class. I'm a teacher but I substitute teach right now. My apartment is filled with things that are old, things that because I don't have much money I keep and find a way to continue to make them useful. As old as these things are, however , they all have character. My purple chair in the living room, my wooden book shelf I bought with money inherited from my uncle that I will always cherish. It's filled with old nicknacks and special books I have collected over the years. My red kitchen, french prints, and homemade roman shades all contribute to the homey feel. Basically I have nothing special here, nothing worth much money at all, but I have found a way to bring it all together to make this house, this apartment, my home. My family loves it here, always telling me what a comfortable place it is. If you came here you might think it's a dive, nothing special. I have old furniture that needs to be redone ( I have loads of ideas and need to get to it) but this place is my home. It's awesome ! It's comfortable. After almost eight years I rarely imagine the view of Central Park. Oh don't get me wrong, I still love New York. I'm in the city all the time. But I'm a Connecticut girl from birth. My family is here. And as they say you always go home, unknown city street and all.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
