Do not rent here
May 2, 2023Leasing staff is extremely unkind and unhelpful. You will be met with constant disrespect and issues living here. Noisy, roaches, unlimited access for anyone. Laundry rooms are gross and have bugs. Concierge and maintenance are great- everything else, especially mgmt is horrible.Review from Apartments.com
Roaches, No Heat, and Terrible Service
August 3, 2020Cockroaches galore at this location, if you want bugs crawling around your apartment then be sure to rent here. We had roaches all over our unit from move-in to move-out, I even saw one on my way in to return my keys! Management said they were treating but no impact was made, and the only way we found to minimize the problem was to spend $100s on roach sprays and treatments. On top of the constant roaches, we had major heating issues, including a heater loudly hissing and squirting hot water for ...over a week straight with maintenance completely clueless as to how to stop it! After they finally fixed it they left the heat for the bedroom this issue was in completely off, added a clamp to the adjustment valve and never responded to my request to turn on the heat, so I was left in freezing temperatures from December to March until things warmed up outside (as of moving out the clamp was still on so the heat can't be turned on at all). The third major issue with the unit was that the paint on the walls was falling off, even at move in there were major cracks visible all up and down the walls and ceilings, and upon putting in maintenance requests I was told that they couldn't fix them while someone was living in the unit. I guess they never will then because they didn't fix them before we moved it. On top of the massive issues with the unit itself, the community is also in a horrific state. Our building had no handicap entrance, in order to get inside you either had to enter through the basement which was always covered in either large alive or large dead cockroaches (usually both) or go through the front or back entrance with stairs up to the door and then also up from the door to reach the units and elevator. This also made moving in and out a major hassle. The entire apartment complex was also hit with break-ins and theft happening at all times of the day in all 5 buildings, even though the management only reported break-in in the main building, and they never made any steps towards increasing security. Definitely try to avoid getting paper mail and any sort of package delivered, the concierge system is abysmal and you'll be left waiting for days/weeks to receive an email that your package has arrived, and they won't look for it if you haven't gotten an email. When we tried to move out they lost half our moving supplies and it took days to get them to search the mail room for them, where they had been sitting the whole time. safety concern
January 26, 2019My apartment was broken into last week. In December there was an email sent out that "at least two apartments" were broken into. There has been no assurance that this wouldn't happen again. There has been no increase in security. There was no evidence on the security cameras that are only placed near the entrance/exits that anyone entered or left the building around the time of my break in which leads me to suspect that the person breaking into the multiple apartments lives in the building. The ...other tenants were not notified of the additional breaks in, namely mine. I asked the management company to increase security but no actions were taken. I asked to break my lease because I do not feel safe and they will not let me. They're not willing to help make this place safe. Uncontrollable radiators, outdated electrical system
November 12, 2018The building seems nice at first but only after moving in and living there do you realize how many problems it has. Besides taking up valuable space, the radiators are a constant headache in the cold-weather months. They are almost uncontrollable. There is a knob on the left that is supposed to control the level of heat, but it has absolutely no effect: they spew heat at a rate comparable to a steam engine on the RMS Titanic. Therefore, so as not to roast alive, you are forced to turn them on ...and off from the intake valve, sometimes every 30 minutes while you're in the room, just to regulate the temperature. It is a tremendous nuisance, as this involves twisting the valve 15-20 turns, with a hot mitt to avoid the scalding steam, and when closing it cranking as hard as you can to get the steam and heat to finally stop forcing its way through even the smallest crack. Also the electrical system is antiquated. You will trip the circuit if you try to run the ceiling fan in the living room at the same time as the microwave and the dishwasher in the kitchen ... or other similar combinations. My recommendation ... unless you're comfortable with the prospect of some major headaches, don't be fooled by the new lobby or the pretty pictures ... look elsewhere.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com

Can't wait to move out
May 10, 2017I've lived here for almost a year and am counting down the days until I can move out (August, I see you coming). Since I've lived here, the fire alarm in our building has gone off twice due to faulty wiring -- both times at 2am -- and both times, we've had to call emergency services because the alarm didn't notify the main building or the fire department. Speaking of which, there is a fire department half of a block away, so I hope you don't mind flashing lights and sirens constantly going off at ...all hours of the night. Our apartment also has a roach problem. In the past few months, I've had the apartment complex send an exterminator into my apartment five times -- the roaches are still here and appear to be multiplying. Oh, and the radiator in my apartment might be the loudest thing I've ever heard. The "fitness center" is no more than a particularly poor hotel gym; it has mix-matched free weights, six treadmills, three bikes, two strength machines, and no windows. The pool area isn't great, but they are doing construction on it, so it might improve soon. There are no grocery options within a mile, so enjoy walking a mile uphill from Giant or paying for grocery delivery, because those are your only options. Plus, there aren't many restaurants around, other than the three by CVS. And, best of all, the management is a joke. I tried to call to complain about something and was told that the community manager was out of town, so my complaint (regarding a rent issue) would have to wait until he returned in a week and that there was no one else with whom I could speak. After refusing to take that as an answer and getting grumpy, they suddenly remembered that there's an assistant community manager that I could speak to. Great job team. That being said, this place is cheap-ish. I still don't recommend it, as you can get better apartments for less money elsewhere in the city that are closer to the metro. As long as you can live without water and AC
April 17, 2017This building may seem great at first...but I've lived here for over two years and the management is ridiculously unresponsive to tenant complaints. It is clear they only want your money and are not interested in providing your basic necessities such as water and AC. The water is frequently cut due to ongoing renovations with little notice. The hot water goes out for hours for no apparent reason and with no notice. There is loud construction going on before 7 am on Sundays. And the AC does not ...come on until June 1 (the pool's not open until then, too), even when it's 90 degrees out. I've emailed, called and spoken with management and they send you pleasantries before going and doing the same exact thing the next week. No AC and no response
April 13, 2017Imaging lying awake at 1:40 am with beads of sweat running down your face because your apartment doesn't have AC available and the interminable traffic sounds aggravate the problem when you open your window. This is me right now at Connecticut Heights. I reached out to the complex with no response. This is unbearable. Now, I consider how much in rent I pay to live like this.... Not very happy right now. Great place... if you don't care about AC
October 20, 2016The main tower is a great place with all the amenities plus utilities included. Sound too good to be true? It is. They control the AC unit slash hot water tank so any change of season means only heat or only AC. Spring and fall? Who cares about above average temps for weeks on end. They can only accommodate heat because of the "low temperatures" that may occur happen. Who in the world is using their heater when it is 85 degrees outside? Not only that, it is a high rise building so heat travels ...throughout. I NEVER turn on my heat because it is that warm in the building. Not to mention seasonal allergies which I suffer from. I was told to open my windows. Even with the open windows and fan going, my place is still 81 degrees IN LATE OCTOBER. If you sleep best in AC, do not live here! Side note: the older, onsite buildings are not all inclusive of utilities and have their own window AC units. I'd imagine that is the better option if you don't mind bugs. First apartment and I love it!
August 24, 2015I am an AU student and I was looking to get a little bit further from campus to get a better deal and a little bit more independence. I have nothing but good things to say. Our apartment is unrenovated, but it is still adorable and has great cabinets/countertops and updated appliances. My only, only complaint is the occasional bug downstairs in the laundry room, but for DC that's pretty good. Knock on wood but I've never seen one in the actual apartment. Solid place to live
August 30, 2015I've lived in my studio apartment for 3.5 years, and each year when my lease is up I weigh whether or not to move... I always come back to this being the best option for me. Things are fixed within a reasonable time, the pool and gym are nice amenities, my unit is small, but comfortable with a phenomenal view. The neighborhood is safe and pleasant with enough places in walking distance to be pretty convenient, plus Rock Creek Park is close and it's an easy commute to downtown.
