Safety Issues

I lived at Bella Ridge North for four years. Overall, I think property management did a great job at maintaining the apartments and buildings themselves clean and well-kept, including the common areas (pool, gym, walking areas, etc.) Any minor issues were resolved quickly and the ladies in the leasing office were polite and responsive. The apartments themselves were large and spacious.
With that being said, over the past year there were definitely changes in who was coming and going/leasing the ...
apartments. Noticeable differences in a higher police presence (I saw cop cars within the property gates four of five times in the six months up to leaving), random people walking around, being let in the gate who clearly did not live there, parking spots being taken by non-residents etc. Unfortunately my husband's car was stolen right from outside the apartment, on the top floor of the parking garage and several of our neighbors cars were broken into over an extended period of time. While, understandably not First Lake's fault directly, I feel like better measures could have been taken to provide a safer and more secure atmosphere, up to and including, cameras on every floor of the garage (not just where you enter) and better measures on securing the property for non-residents. When addressing the issue with corporate leadership the attitude was dismissive and very much "Not our problem" instead of "Hey, you've been a valued resident for x amount of years, we care about your business, these are the measures we are taking to improve". We had to follow-up several times not only with corporate but also with the "courtesy officer" on site, who I don't even know is a real person because he or she never reached out or contacted police. This is less about physical property and more about the attitude of the business/management and caring about resident safety. If people will steal in that close of proximity so brazenly it will probably escalate shortly into apartment break-ins.
Overall, they have some major safety issues to work through.

I would not recommend Bella Ridge North to my worse enemy. The layout of the apartments are ok but the staff does not address issues! They will act as though you caused the issue and will never fix it. Leaking shower, broken tub, sewer back-up, etc. and these are supposed to be luxury apartments. It takes an act of Congress to get things fixed. The Manager does not care and will let your apartment fall apart before she does anything. If you like issues fixed timely, Bella Ridge North is not the ...

I would not recommend Bella Ridge to anyone looking for a safe place to live. The office and management staff are rude and they do not care for one's safety nor one's general concerns. My car got vandalized/broken into overnight, and the office's response was “We are not here to make you feel safe”. After my incident, the cops have been called in for more car break in incidents, and we also found out that some of our neighbors had also experienced the same incident. In addition to having NO ...
concern for the residents, Bella Ridge also stated that one would have to pay a “$100 fee” in order to have access to the entrance video camera footage, where it states NO WHERE in the lease. They do not care to make the community feel safe. They are only concerned in renting out the units, and from my recent experience, they do not run a proper background check. After the multiple incidents that have occurred, they still refuse to install cameras in the garage and/or around the buildings, nor do they inform/alert the residents of what has happened within the community.

We were very sorry to hear that you have fallen victim to a recent theft at Bella Ridge North. We assure you that the safety of our residents is our utmost concern. Our management teams have been cooperating with the local police and have welcomed them to review any camera footage that they might find useful to their ongoing investigation. We are continuing to review all of the facts that have been brought to us so that we can better assist the police. The increased crime rate has been a continuing issue all over the Greater New Orleans Area, and it is extremely unfortunate that our community has fallen victim. In order to prevent future theft and vandalism from occurring at our property, we encourage all residents to report any suspicious activity to both the Bella Ridge North management team, and more importantly, to the Jefferson Parish Police Department. Because of the unfortunate situation that you experienced, we are now hearing about additional occurrences on our property from ...
other residents.
However, these residents had not reported their experiences to either the police or to our management team. Some have felt that since they had not had anything stolen, or since they left their cars unlocked, it was not important to report. We do believe that it is critical that each and every incident is reported to all appropriate parties. Please encourage your neighbors to report any suspicious activity they have witnessed, if they have not already done so. Working together as a community will help us to continue to gather vital information in order to catch the perpetrators, and prevent future occurrences. Since Bella Ridge North first opened its doors, we have continued to enforce strict qualifying criteria. This includes running a thorough background check on each applicant and leaseholder. Our screening process has not changed.
Finally, we would like for you to know that we are listening and taking appropriate action to find a solution to this matter.
