Outrageous noise for months on end!
February 21, 2023Have you ever wanted to live at an active construction site?! Then Brewer's Yard is the place for you! I lived here for 4 years with minimal issues. But the last lease was absolutely a mistake. They are currently renovating the building, and having been doing so for many months, with many months more to come. The sounds of construction begin daily at around 8am and continue all day, with sounds of drills, saws, and jackhammers. Contractors wearing dirty boots track white dry-wall dust through ...the building, play music loudly, shout to one another, leave their trash in/around the building, and take up nearby parking spaces for weeks on end. With no sign of stopping, be prepared to deal with this garbage year-round if you sign a lease here anytime soon. They will ask you to sign a "Renovation Addendum" that says you cannot sue them for noise. Believe me, they mean to use it. Besides the perpetual construction fiasco, there are plenty of regular issues. The keyfob systems have failed multiple times, occasionally making it impossible to get into the building you're paying for. The garage doors break constantly, I believe one or both of them have been broken more often than they have been in working order. If you like the sounds of a working railyard, then try to get an apartment on the west side of the building. It directly faces a large railroad track and a stone-cutting business, so in addition to the crazy noise from inside the building, you can listen to the trains outside. The mailroom is madness. When I first moved in it was fine; packages would be delivered to the office, you'd get a notice, and come down to pick them up. Apparently accepting packages and handing them out was too much work, so they stopped. They installed an electronic locker system, but in speaking with delivery people, its extremely annoying and slow to check in all the packages. In practice, this means that very frequently they simply don't put them in the lockers and dump them on the floor. The electricity service is not AEP, but through a mandatory reseller, Pioneer Electric. You'll get to experience the pleasure of paying well over market rate plus ridiculous fees for your power service.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Good experience
September 21, 2022We lived here for a year, it was good. Not crazy noisy, solid construction (20 year old building so it isn't made of cardboard like the other newer places downtown), perfect location. If you have a dog there are numerous green spaces 1 to 2 blocks away. Nice pool and staff, good mix of tenant ages but definitely lots of people in their mid to late 20s.Review from Apartments.com

August 2, 2021The location is amazing, the staff is friendly and they keep the common areas clean and well maintained. Rent is less expensive if you compare it to other places in the vicinity of Downtown but the high utility bills more than compensate for those 'savings'. We paid almost $400 bucks a month during the winter and asked the staff to check what was going on but they never got back to us, no one seems interested in solving that problem and its a shame because other than that (very important) issue ...I think this place is great.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Excellent Place to Call Home
February 14, 2020I have absolutely no complaints about Brewers Yard. It's extremely clean, well maintained, excellent location, wonderful office staff, quick maintenance turn around, my hallway/floor is quiet. The only downfall is it's on the high end of my budget. I love that the circulator stops two blocks away. I love that I can run to/around Schiller Park in the dark and feel safe. The building is well secured, the lobby always smells delightful, I'm surprised there are usually units available here!Property Manager Responded

Worst place I have ever lived
September 6, 2017This is the worst renting experience I have ever had!! The leasing office agents are not helpful. The maintenance men and leasing agents are ALWAYS on the property smoking when it clearly has signs posted everywhere "no smoking on property". They asked if we wanted to renew our lease 5 months before our lease was even up! Now since we changed our mind they are keeping all security deposits and requesting 2 months rent AFTER we move out. Office staff is TERRIBLE.
September 3, 2016If the office staff at this place is any indication of what it's like to live here, run fast and far. Here's a life tip: If you're inconvenienced by helping people, maaaaaybe customer service is not the occupation for you. We walk in for a tour on Saturday afternoon (9/3/2016). After waiting in the lobby a little bit, one of the women in the office comes to greet us. Sort of? I've worked in service before, so I know they don't tell you in your training to walk out and stare at people without ...using some kind of introductory line like, "Hi! What can I help you with today?" But alas, that's what we got. A staring, apathetic woman that couldn't have looked more annoyed. So my husband and I have to be the ones to introduce ourselves and ask to take a tour. At this point we're doing a better job at her job than she is. She asked for our photo identification, which I guess I get? In case I wanted to go take a tour and start smashing lamps or something. But here's the thing - my whole identity just got stolen from my purse on a trip to Aruba. License. Passport. Everything. So I didn't have any photo identification on me; I just didn't have time last week to go to the DMV and get it reissued. My husband DID have his, and I had one credit card I had on me that had been reissued and I was willing to leave for them to hold, but that wasn't good enough. There was no offer like, "I'm sorry, that's our policy, but let's sit and talk about what amenities our complex offers, rental policies, etc." She just rudely told me she couldn't do anything for us, which I'm sure she was thrilled at so she could continue Instagramming on her phone and being generally unhelpful to potential residents. What my initial experience tells me is that the office staff is a nightmare to work with, they're completely inflexible, and judging by the fact that their prices are significantly lower than comps in the area, there is probably a good reason. My husband and I were pretty excited to tour. We were willing to break our lease at our current place to move somewhere downtown. IN FACT, we were talking with another couple about moving to the same complex and they had wanted us to report back our findings. Just remember... it may be the day of an Ohio State game and you MAY not want to be there, but you're at your job, so act like it. Being flexible, accommodating, and polite goes a long way. Here is my take: The good: -Location is downtown/German Village -Covered parking -across the street from Kroger -pool The okay: -The two bedroom layout was nice for living with a roommate because both bedrooms and bathrooms were an equal size -pets are allowed -you only get one mailbox key even in a two bedroom -you only get one parking spot with a two bedroom -there is EXTREMELY LIMITED parking for visitors. Tell your friends ...to take an uber -the neighborhood is getting safer, but as a single woman I would not venture out alone at night. Not even to Kroger The straight up bad: -Maintenance is unorganized. They often show up to the wrong apartment for the request. I had maintenance people enter my apartment unannounced on multiple occasions because they mixed up the apartment numbers. On the reverse end, we would request maintenance and no one showed up because I presume they went to the wrong apartment -The office staff is often unhelpful/uninformed. I often had many questions/concerns go unanswered. One day my fire alarm was going off and I was told it was just the batteries... -The trains are LOUD. The trains have to put on their brakes as they enter the downtown area and the brakes are a loud, abrasive, shrieking noise that frequently shakes the walls. You can't leave your windows open at night unless you get earplugs. -I have lived in many different apartment communities and have always received 100% of my security deposit back upon moving out. At Brewer's Yard I received 20% back. They deducted for many routine cleaning things that should be done regardless when anyone moves out. Sycamore at Brewers Yard Apartments
September 25, 2015This apartment complex has a fair price for the location and amenities. It's close to downtown and within walking distance of multiple cute restaurants and bars (not to mention German Village). The bedrooms, closets, and bathrooms are huge and can even work for 2 people per room. The kitchen is a little awkward, but overall has plenty of cabinets and counter space to keep appliances and cook. I also love the extra desk provided in all apartments - it's an extra little space to do work that other ...apartment complexes don't provide. Also, maintenance staff fixes any problems reported within 24 hours. The apartment has safe, assigned, and covered parking attached to the building so no need to go into the elements or worry about where your car is! There is a large pool area with grills and a relatively nice gym compared to other apartment complexes in the area. It's also located literally across the parking lot from a huge Kroger! :) My only advice is to avoid getting an apartment room that faces the train tracks because the train can be pretty loud.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com
Leaking ceiling
August 10, 2015In June (2015), the ceiling in my 1st floor apartment developed a leak in the bedroom directly above my bed; by leak I mean it filled two gallon sized buckets. My bedding had to be dry cleaned and I had to rent a carpet cleaner to clean my mattress, at my expense. I called next morning, maintenance came out and left buckets to catch the water. Two days later they tell me the leak is fixed, repaired the ceiling, and cleaned the carpet...great right? Here we are August (2015), same THING! ...Once again I'm sleeping on couch due to leak in ceiling!
