The experience with Retreat community has been a very pleasant one. The management team is very friendly and honest to work with. I had concerns before signing the lease and the management made sure they addressed all of them concerns. I truly have had a pleasant experience being part of the community.

Great place to live and super pet friendly. Amenities are amazing although I do wish the gym had a bench to use. Got along with the roommates they assigned me

Unmatched Student Living

The Retreat is definitely the ultimate student living experience. The staff have always been friendly and the community atmosphere that the property provides is unmatched in State College. The wifi included in rent is occasionally slow, but when the staff is notified, they respond and take action to resolve it and any other problems. Having the on-site security has definitely kept parties and other activities on site under control, which is appreciated, and maintenance keeps the grounds looking ...
spiffy all year. They also just renovated the fitness center on site (you can watch Netflix while running on the treadmills.. where else can you do that!) The rooms are extremely clean compared to other living options and I've never had a problem with any of the appliances in my unit. I definitely recommend living here even if it is one of the more expensive living options in the area. You get back every cent you pay.

Excellent place to live!

The Retreat is a bit far from campus, but the amenities definitely make up for it. The houses are relatively new with decent appliances, and the neighborhood overall has a very warm atmosphere.

Coming back to a house to my own bedroom and bathroom, washer and drier, and more is such a less stressful living situation. The maintenance is extremely helpful and they always have friendly employees at the clubhouse.

It is a nice place to live and very close to college. They have very nice common area!! Pool with hot tub, study area, computer room, tanning,etc. People are friendly!! The best in state college area!!!

Not recommended for serious students

Loud place, parties all the time and looks nicer than it is. The amenities are worth the high price especially with your own room, but the cottages are poorly built and falling apart. Wouldn't recommend for anyone taking school seriously. Management cares more about their reputation than the residents.

  Thank you for this review. We take these reviews very seriously and try very hard to resolve any problem our residents may be experiencing. The original builder of The Retreat State College is Landmark Properties. Our company, EdR, bought The Retreat in September of 2013. We did experience some new construction glitches, but our maintenance team has worked very hard to fix them. Over the the past year we have increased our security to address noise issues. Our residents are always our top priority- please call our office 814-231-0871 to discuss whatever your specific issue is so that we can continue to improve our efforts to provide the best student living at Penn State.

Overall good place to live

Pros: newer homes, separated from each other, pet friendly, very nice common area with pool and hot tub, separate rooms each with their own bathroom, free shuttle to downtown on Friday and Saturday. Cons: higher prices for rent compared to other locations, most all houses front steps needs to be fixed, in winter sometimes pipes freeze.

Good community, excellent facilities

The retreat provides the best college housing in state college. They really care about their residents and go all out to see to your needs and questions with events like taco tuesdays. With a gym, hot tub, pool, sauna, golf simulator room, tanning beds and more, I would strongly recommend this place to anyone intrested
