Safety Concerns Ignored and Dismissed

After raising serious concerns, none of my issues were properly addressed. Instead, I was met with intimidation and dismissal. I’ve been made aware that the property manager told staff and residents, “If she’s so scared, why doesn’t she just leave?” — which is completely unacceptable and unprofessional.
Rather than prioritizing safety, I was given the runaround and made to feel unreasonable and untrustworthy. This is especially upsetting considering I’ve always tried to support this community — ...
whether it was providing meals for staff or reporting suspicious activity in the parking lot to help keep the area safe. I have yet to speak to a person who is above and concerned.
To go from being a supportive resident to being shut out and treated this way is extremely disappointing. I once genuinely loved living here and even had positive interactions with ownership, which makes this experience even more disheartening. I never would have expected my child’s safety, or my own, to feel at risk in a place I once trusted.

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the 13 wonderful years I spent as a resident of City Place, formerly known as Skyview Towers. My journey began in December 2012 when I was approved to move in, and by January, I was settling into Apartment 701. Though the layout was different from what I expected—my bedroom was on the left instead of the right—I quickly grew to love my space and the community around me.
Over the years, I witnessed remarkable improvements to the property: new ...
carpeting, fresh paint, and the addition of a fitness and community area. I was fortunate to be offered a new apartment during these upgrades, and with each move, I continued to enjoy the company of respectful and friendly floor mates. The hallways were always clean, quiet, and welcoming—never once did I experience or hear of a break-in during my entire stay.
The maintenance staff consistently went above and beyond. They were kind, responsive, and always willing to help. While the property saw several managers over the years, I must say that Monique and Dee have been the absolute best. Their professionalism, warmth, and dedication to residents made a lasting impression on me. They always greeted me with a smile and worked tirelessly to ensure my needs were met.
Security at City Place was top-notch. Anytime I called, they responded quickly and with care. Even when challenges arose—such as elevator breakdowns—the staff did everything in their power to resolve the issues and communicate with ownership to bring about lasting solutions. I’ve seen firsthand the effort they’ve put into installing new elevators, despite the frustrations expressed by some. Their commitment to improvement and safety never wavered.
I’ll miss the view from my window, especially during the beautiful Detroit winters. My heating and air conditioning were always reliable, and regular home and pest inspections helped maintain a clean and comfortable living environment.
As I move on to a new chapter, I want to sincerely thank the entire City Place team for their dedication, kindness, and hard work. You’ve created a safe, secure, and welcoming home for so many—including me. I’m grateful for every moment.

Unwelcome roommates & broken elevators

This place has great views but you don't get enjoy them when you are battling roaches all day. They come from every opening to a wall. It doesn't matter if your unit is spotless! The elevators are always broken. The property management team does not follow through with their claims of improvement. I would advise you to stay away unless you have no other place to go!

Fire alarm goes off for hours in the middle of the night. Tenants disregard all alarms.
Parking lot a mess with potholes, often full with cars incorrectly parked for months, littered with trash and broken glass from car windows.
Hot water doesn't work in winter.
Elevators frequently down.
Washer and dryers don't work.
Dogs excrete everywhere. In the main lobby, front door, stairwells, elevators and even gym.
Hallways and stairwells littered with trash.

When I first came for a tour I thought this apartment was too good to be true. It's in a great location, nice staff and tenants, and very clean appearing apartments. Unfortunately, I was wrong. My first week at the apartment there was an odor in the hallways and in the apartment, the parking lot gets packed by 5 PM and people will park around your car so you can't get out of the lot, my mailbox was completely filled of the previous tenants mail and continued to get the previous tenants mail, and ...
I only had one package delivered and the front desk lost it. During my first night, there were cockroaches that crawled out from unsealed floors (due to POOR remodeling), the kitchen sink, and the bathroom sink. As you can imagine, I was horrified and contacted Danielle. She was quick to respond and my apartment was exterminated in a few days. However, the exterminators are TERRIBLE! I ended up having 3 extermination treatments and continued to have cockroaches every night. I also had large moths that would fly into the apartment from what i'm assuming was an open vent in the kitchen. I couldn't handle the lack of effectiveness of the exterminators and left immediately. Overall it was a terrible experience. If you're willing to live with cockroaches then this is the place for you! Or else, pay for a more expensive apartment with NO cockroaches.

So I moved to Detroit in October, and city place admin made me feel super welcome. My dog actually did not do well with the apartment environment so I had to leave. This was a bummer because of how close this place is to the city, the river and eastern market! Either way the management was super understanding and willing to come to an agreement that made us both happy. Its a diverse crowd at this place but everyone is friendly! Plus its a great price for the location :)

have to pay more to live on the higher floors, which was awesome because I had a great view of the city. The location is great if you enjoy the Eastern Market, Dequindre Cut, or going to the sports arenas.
I'm not from Detroit so I was a little unsure of what to expect, but I really think this is a great place to live downtown. There is a lot of young professionals living here working in a variety of fields, especially at Quicken. I thought people were generally friendly and a lot of people had dogs. I moved out because I found a really cheap place outside of Detroit to live, but I think this place was on the up and up when I left. I would definitely recommend for those looking to locate downtown.
