Wonderful Home, Difficult Leasing Process

Highlights: Gables Brookhaven is a great place for college students and young professionals. My boyfriend and I moved in right after graduating and loved the location—it’s close to another college campus, Costco, and the Brookhaven Town Center. While the area is quiet and safe, there’s not a ton to do nearby, so it may feel slow if you’re looking for something more lively. The apartment itself was clean, modern, and very comfortable. our golden retriever to safely run around. Our building (4th floor of the second one) was quiet and our neighbors were great. Maintenance was a huge highlight—they were always friendly, fast, and typically responded within 24 hours.
Drawbacks: There were definitely some downsides, though, mostly related to the front office. Our leasing agent quit without notifying us, leaving us completely in the dark during the application and move-in process. We had to call and email repeatedly with no response until someone finally answered. Even then, communication remained poor, and our move-in date was pushed back last-minute. Toward the end of our lease, we were notified of a rent increase—even though the same floor plan was listed online for less. Because the lease requires 60 days' notice to vacate, we had only five days to find a new apartment, sign a lease elsewhere, and give notice just to avoid being charged significantly more month-to-month. It felt rushed and stressful, especially after being reliable tenants.
One last thing to note is the fire alarms—they are extremely loud and ear-piercing. While we only experienced four alarms in our 11 months (two of which were scheduled and communicated via email), it's definitely something to be prepared for, especially if you have pets.
Overall, we really enjoyed living at Gables Brookhaven and made great memories here. The apartment, maintenance team, and pet-friendly environment were all excellent. Just be prepared to stay on top of communication with the front office and carefully track your lease deadlines to avoid any surprises.
