I live in a beautiful loft apartment in Boston that I am able to afford because the city gives me a discount because I am an artist. Here's the catch, when my husband I first moved in 8 years ago there was an option to buy after 6 years... Except, just joking!, that's a loophole and no longer an option. Now almost 8 years living here, my artwork (finally) is getting more successful so my husband and I are no longer qualifying to live in our space unless we pay $1000 more... Which would be ...
$2800! Between our income, student loans, debt, and living that is not possible with our income..AND we really want to start a family. I feel that like every neighborhood where artists are forced out by high prices, we are being punished For doing OKAY. By okay I mean we are making around $85k combined. Most likely we will have to move outside the city next year because rentals are so inflated in the city ( $2k for 600 sq ft?!?) how do we live in a city AND afford rent? Help!
