  • Old buildings, mouse, impolite staff and management

    I had a very poor experience living in this complex. Below is a glance of my experience: In winter, we found a mouse in the kitchen. The buildings are very old, so you may find one in your apartments too. The management said they will ask pest control to take care of it. They came here 3 times, captured 2 mice in the oven and the 3rd time they wrote: "sanitized the oven" but the total time they spent in the apartment was only 15 minutes. The oven was still dirt, so I asked the management to ...
    sanitize the oven. Their response was: "you are responsible to clean your oven". So, if you plan to live here, make yourself ready for this kind of attitude. Building have no entrance door, making it very cold in winters. You may think that the gas/heating is free, but still, the heating system uses a lot if electricity because of the large fans to blow warm air into the apartment. Besides the cost, the temperature fluctuates very much in winter. Internet: they force you to get internet through them. They do not allow other internet providers. Therefore, you have to pay for their internet, which will be $50/month. Something that you could get from other providers like Comcast or Charters Spectrum for $25-$30) Even with such high internet cost, I had a very bad experience, several times my internet was disconnected and I had to wait a day without internet.

  • It has a basement!

    The townhomes are adorable, but you can see that from the photos on the website. I live in the one-bedroom model and am happy enough that I'm likely to sign a third lease here. The place is in a college area, so the appliances, countertops, etc, aren't super-high-end. They show some wear and a few scratches and cracks here and there. However, everything is clean and well-kept. Maintenance is responsive, pleasant, and knowledgeable. Snow shoveling and plowing is very timely. The area is central to ...
    most things. It's only 10-15 minutes driving in various directions to downtown, Meijer, Walmart, and Target. A bus stop is likely only a three-minute walk from your front door. I've never felt unsafe or had any items stolen. There is an Amtrak train that goes by the area on a semi-frequent basis. It can be relatively loud, but since there isn't a station nearby the train is quickly past you. I actually enjoy the sound of the train, but it's something to keep in mind if you don't. Another odd thing to consider: All Edward Rose complexes have a proprietary cable and internet company. You can't go with any different company if you live in one of their complexes. For TV, you have a choice of pricey Dish network cable or their cheap but very limited regular cable (or none at all). For internet, you have a choice of three reasonable and reasonably priced packages. Keep in mind that you have to purchase and maintain your own cable modem and wireless router. If you're somewhat tech savvy, you shouldn't run into issues. Each townhouse has a basement. It doesn't have egress, so you can't legally have a bedroom down there. Still, it's invaluable for storage and for that hidden apartment treasure: the washer and dryer. Mine comes with the washer and dryer itself, but I believe the larger models come with hook-ups only. Also, since the HVAC is nicely stored away in the basement, the upstairs living quarters feel significantly larger than they would otherwise. The townhouses also each come with one carport. Great perk, but they don't have additional ones available for rent. If you live in with roommates, I can see how that could cause tension in the Michigan winters. The downside for me is that there are several families with small children, so on non-school days it can get a little loud with the kids around. All in all, it's a good place to live and I do recommend it.

    My husband and I love our apartment. The office staff are so nice and friendly! They are always willing to help in any way they can. Maintenance is a little slow on repairs sometimes, but if there's a major issue it gets priority. We have never had to call and complain to the office about anything. It's nice that we only pay electric, Internet and cable. Our electric bill is a little ridiculous sometimes, mainly in the summer due to the air-conditioning but that is really the only complaint ...
