  • Amazing Leasing Staff!!!

    I’m a new resident at this lovely complex and while I can say I was skeptical at first given the reviews, Dorian and M’kiyah made the leasing process an absolute breeze! They were willing and able to work with my abnormal application, responsive, and communicative. Maintenance has also done a great job responding quickly to any issues that arise. The unit itself is very aesthetic with a lot of space and I’m happy to call this complex home!

    A lot of 5 star reviews are prior to Move in- we have been living here since late November and have found mold in our apartment to the point me and my wife have not been feeling well. We have reached out to maintenance, management and upper management since January, and the lack of communication or urgency to fix this issue is disappointing. Other reviews express mold concerns that have not been addressed. We have been trying to contact Dorian, the manager, for a week now and never receive a call ...
    back. Every time we call the office, Dorian’s not available, and does not return our calls or emails. They are friendly prior to the signing the lease and once you move in, you’re on your own.

  • A Nightmare on Gateway Street

    If Gordon Ramsay created a TV series called Apartment Nightmares, The Retreat would be the highlight of the season. If I were to describe this decrepit apartment complex in a few words it be like illustrating a scene from a horror movie: flea infested, mold contaminated, hazardous wasteland. They should seriously consider renaming the community to The Nightmare on Gateway Street. As I scroll through the reviews for The Retreat, I’m reminded of my time watching Law & Order: SVU; except these are ...
    the stories of the victims. To depict the reviewers as victims wouldn’t be an exaggeration. The leasing staff at The Retreat utilizes deceptive sales tactics to lure in would-be customers by showing them an ideal apartment model that doesn’t remotely resemble the unit itself. However, don’t expect to see your unit UNTIL move-in day; instead, they will delay with excuses for fear of losing potential customers. Once you’ve stepped into your decrepit unit expect to be met with a host of issues, including, but not limited to: - Non-working appliances (e.g., washer/dryer) - Molded dishwasher/washer - Non-working toilets - Leaking faucets - Non-existent sound proofing between the subfloor - Etc. But don’t expect any sympathy from the leasing office after you’ve expressed your dissatisfaction with the unit; you’ve signed a legally binding contract with the devil himself. The discounted 13-month lease was merely a ploy to pique your interest in the hellish abode. My advice to all onlookers: stay away from The Nightmare of Farmington Hills.

  • DO NOT SIGN A LEASE HERE!

    This has by far been one of the worst property managements I have ever experienced.  Starting at move in, I was told that I might have to wait to move into my apartment because they were not done cleaning it. That was a JOKE. My apartment was not cleaned. They may have replaced the carpets and that was it. I had to mop several times before my floors were cleaned. Also, upon moving in, multiple things were broken, missing, or not working properly. I still to this day do not have a drain plug in my ...
    bathroom sink. A towel holder was hanging off the wall, the buzzer to the apartment doesn't work but neither do the locks to the building doors.  I have put in multiple maintenance requests to get things fixed. They have canceled some of them and marked some of them as completed even though they never did anything.  At one point, I noticed water damage in my ceiling (I am on the bottom floor) and put in a request to have it addressed. After almost 2 weeks and no call from maintenance, my ceiling started to collapse and water was leaking into my apartment. They ripped out the drywall and exposed a ton of MOLD in my ceiling. And the hole sat open for a whole MONTH. The Property Manager told me she would personally call me when she hired a contractor to fix it. Imagine my surprise when maintenced called to tell me she wasn't going to get a contractor and so they would just do the patch job themselves.  They also LEFT MY STOVE ON when I was not home, when I had a maintenance request for that. All I got was an "I'm sorry" for COMPLETE NEGLIGENCE. Now, my dryer is burning my clothes for the SECOND time and they have had a whole week to contact me.  Save your money and go literally anywhere else. I can't wait for my lease to be up.

  • BEDBUGS INFESTED APATRMENT

    Recently moved in to the newly leased apartment which was infested with bed bugs leading to serious bodily injuries. Complains to management went to deaf ears as they don't care for the health of the tenant's . Please don't get carried away by the free rents offered to lure to occupy these apartments which are hazardous and please try to get opinions from existing tenant's before singing the lease agreement.

  • DO NOT MOVE HERE.

    DO NOT MOVE HERE!!! My stove has been broke and "poorly put together" over 12 TIMES. REFUSE TO REPLACE. Have to wait WEEKS for someone to come fix it. Heat went out in January, maintenance claimed the whole furnanced needed to be replace so I had to wait over a week because they didn't make new parts for it anymore. Claimed they replaced it.. It is now MAY and my air conditioning is out. It has been 80 DEGREES or more this whole week it has been out. I have a new born and had to rush him to ...

Management has told me MULTIPLE TIMES someone is going to come look at it. 5 Days later some comes and say the FURNACE IS OLD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED I HAVE TO GET ON A WAITING LIST. I have to go get rooms for my child and I. Property manager was suppose to call, NEVER DID. They don't accommodate you, they don't care if its an emergency or life or death.   • Unhelpful management. Friedman Properties. Mold all over appliances

    Beware. This is the worst apartment.moulds all over washing machine. Dryer hasn’t been working we kept on complaining the management hasn’t done anything for over 5 months. Instead of changing she is telling us to go to laundromat. Imagine you can’t wash at the comfort of your home after paying your rent.

  • Unhospitable, rude management

    I have lived here for over 25 years, and throughout the years, we have seen the management change and witnessed the decline in the overall quality of this complex. We received the "remodeled" apartment with the bathroom walls peeling off, the ceiling in the living room close to collapsing, among many other imperfections akin to these, with management refusing to fix any of this, not even the paint, and suggesting that it won't be fixed until after we move. Recently, we were charged $50 for ...
    "damages" after leaving a bicycle on the patio because we were on vacation and couldn't move it inside after the notice (note we've had bikes on the patio for over a decade with no complaint prior). We inquired about the possibility of not paying for August and moving out a bit earlier, considering our contract technically ends on August 31st. Last Friday, we sought advice from the apartment complex employees about this possibility and they advised us to wait until Monday to discuss it with the manager. However, when we returned on Monday to speak with the manager, to our dismay, the management informed us that we failed to provide a 60 days notice before vacating the premises. Instead of showing any compassion or understanding for our longstanding tenancy, they coldly insisted that we not only pay for August but also a staggering 17 days of September. As a result, we are now being forced to pay for three extra days than it would have been on Friday, highlighting the management's lack of accountability and disregard for their own guidance, leaving us feeling deceived and frustrated. It is beyond disheartening to see how heartless and inflexible they can be, especially considering our 25-year residency here. You would think that after such an extended period of being reliable, responsible tenants, they would be willing to make a simple exception. It feels like they care more about squeezing every last penny out of us rather than acknowledging the decades we've spent calling this place home. Their refusal to extend even the slightest courtesy is a clear sign of their callousness and lack of appreciation for loyal residents. In conclusion, I strongly advise against considering this apartment complex for your living needs. The shoddy remodel, lack of compassion, rigid policies, and general indifference towards longtime residents make this a place to avoid. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment by looking elsewhere for a more humane and caring housing option.

    Have lived here not even 3 months and the list of negative things accumulates daily. Apartment NOT up to any standard I’ve ever lived by. Many RUDE and LOUD neighbors surrounding us. Definitely NOT worth the rent they charge. I could’ve rented something about half the price to deal with these same issues. Do better Beztak!!!

    I’ve been renting for about 7 years and this has been my favorite space so far. The process from application to move-in was stress-free and the staff was very helpful throughout. Location is great and close to many stores and services, and it’s less than a mile away from all major highways. I’m very happy with my decision to call RaF my home.
