My unit was in terrible shape when I moved in. There were piles of dead roaches from previous tenants behind and inside appliances, leftover hair dye stains in the bathroom, and clumps of hair all over my room. It made me feel like management didn't care much about making a good first impression.
None of the windows in the unit were watertight, and they would leak every time it rained. There was also a significant mold and bug problem. In my shared apartment, mold and pink slime would constantly ...
grow around the windows. It became a losing battle trying to keep them clean after every rain. In my room specifically, the leaks became so bad that water was seeping into the drywall. The AC unit was also leaking into the living room wall, which caused the linen closet to become covered in black mold. I brought this issue to management immediately, expecting them to address the root of the problem. Instead, maintenance simply scrubbed the wall with bleach water and called it a day.
Another major issue with the unit was the insane amount of dust. It was practically constant, even though I stayed on top of changing the air filters. If you plan on staying here, I would recommend investing in a quality air purifier.
This is also relevant because, at the time I was living here, I was in my early 20s. One day after class, another resident creepily asked me where I lived and sexually harassed me. He would also camp out in the parking lot in the afternoons to talk to me and try to figure out which building I lived in. This made me extremely uncomfortable and unsafe.
Overall, I never had any serious problems with the majority of the other residents. However, my downstairs neighbors were insanely loud, and you could often hear people fighting in the stairwell late at night. Loud music and yelling were very common. Despite all of this, I did meet some kind people while living here. The stray cats around the property really seemed to bring everyone together.
