I lived at Serene at La Villita for years under the previous owner i.e. Cortland and never had an issue. Since the new management company took over, the professionalism has completely disappeared.
When my lease came up for renewal, the staff aggressively pursued me via phone calls and emails to get me to resign. They won me over by promising a minor rent reduction combined with a one-month rent waiver. However, as soon as I signed the contract, the office went completely silent.

to confirm the details of the one-month waiver, they ignored the message. Instead, they told me verbally that it would automatically apply to my account in January. It never did. I followed up constantly for four months. Every time I spoke to the staff, they claimed it was an internal oversight and promised to upload a lease addendum to the resident portal. They never did.
Finally, after months of pushing for answers, management flat-out refused to honor the one-month waiver. They claimed the promotion was canceled out by the minor monthly discount. This completely contradicts their original pitch and written email offers. No reasonable person would forfeit an entire month of free rent for a negligible monthly discount.
Dealing with this office feels like dealing with a shady car dealership using deceptive tactics to hit quarterly targets. Do not trust any phone, verbal, or email promises made by this staff. If you move here, vet every single line of your documents with extreme care. I will not be renewing my lease.
