Cockroaches at Move-In

I moved into Sheridan Apartments - a seemingly sleek, beautiful 1920s building of the historic Sheridan Beach Hotel near the lake and Jarvis Square - expecting a clean, habitable apartment, but moved into a unit with an active cockroach situation (both adults and nymphs - numerous on my first night) on day one.
Though pest control was arranged for my floor even before my first message to management, a neighboring unit left a note on their door refusing entry. If this is truly what happened, ...
leaving shared walls completely untreated might cause the situation to remain active as they can travel from unit-to-unit. Just imagine sitting in your living room and watching German cockroaches of all sizes walk on your floor, or see a nymph when passing through your hallway in broad daylight. The other day, I went to my bathroom for a shower to find a German cockroach sitting on my toilet paper….
When I emailed management regarding this and left a voicemail my first night, I was told "thanks for letting us know. We appreciate it. Pest control is scheduled for Friday," and also was told "We received your vmail. We have pest control scheduled for Friday…In the future, please submit a maintenance request on the portal," in response to my voicemail. Personally, this is far beyond a "routine maintenance issue." I was, for due credit, told that pest control visits the building every few weeks, and could service my unit if needed. The technician on Friday mentioned seeing a nest in the cabinet.
In terms of maintenance issues, I should say I am happy however regarding their decision to replace the stove with a hole in it and the leaking fridge.
Prospective tenants should be extremely cautious, closely inspect a vacant unit, and ask questions before signing a lease here, and should research their tenant rights. I shall give management time to remedy this issue, but I don't believe this is a situation anyone should have to live in, and will continue escalating until the issue is resolved.
While I can not, and should not, assume that this is a building-wide issue, this review is founded in my personal experience, facts, and opinions. It’s a beautiful building with a beautiful history and a potential future, but structural issues affect its habitability at least in certain units.
