We lived at Somerset for 4 years, during which we never missed a rent payment, had no complaints against us and paid all dues in a timely fashion. We enjoyed our time living here, until we decided to leave the apartment. When we moved, the complex claimed that due to our pets there was carpet damage in every room. We had two cats, both of which were always well behaved and meticulous on their litter box usage. With our many visitors, none ever commented nor complained of any kind of
...cat-related odor (of which, they most certainly would due to the pungent nature of cat urine).
When confronted on the issue, we refused to pay the dues assessed. We requested the photographic evidence of their claimed UV light damage, which they were unable to provide due to the "poor quality of the camera" and its inability to take a sufficient picture. As a master chemist, I requested information on the color of the UV-illuminated "urine." This request was openly laughed at, and after this request we were threatened with small claims court.
Ultimately, the situation was hugely disappointing. It was not worth our time or effort to engage in a court battle with the Eyde company, and we are extremely dissatisfied with their unwillingness to work with us or provide evidence backing their claim. We were dismissed, bullied and pressed into a difficult situation by Kelly Eyde who was extremely unprofessional. Be wary of the fine print, and document more than you think you should when you move in, to avoid similar difficulties. If you have pets, we would strongly suggest the carpet be fully inspected prior to move-in, including pulling the carpet and full UV analysis with pictures.
