The day we moved in, we found the following issues:
1. Completely broken kitchen drawer
2. The entire bottom glass shelf of the refrigerator missing.
3. Garbage disposal not turning on.
4. Garbage disposal full of trash, including the broken glass from the aforementioned shelf that my husband cut his hand on while trying to fix.
5. Melt/hole in kitchen floor
6. Bent and dented bottom drawer of the oven
7. Crack in bathtub
8. Piece of molding laying on the floor of the bedroom
9. Surface light ...
over stove broken/does not turn on
10. Water in the bathtub not draining. After having to unclog myself, drain was filled with blonde hair (we are not blonde) and an orange peel.
11. Burns/soot on the outside balcony ground.
12. Not given a trash can (I was able to collect one 3-days after moving in)
13. Kitchen counter and tub FLITHY after wiping them off upon arrival. Apartment was obviously not cleaned or inspected before our move in.
14. Not given a mailbox number until a week after move-in.
This was just the start. The hot water heaters are located inside the units behind locked doors that you are not given access to. We moved in to the unit in July. On 12/30, we noticed that the carpet in the hallway outside of our apartment was very wet. After investigation by the maintenance team, it was found that the leak was coming from the hot water heater inside our apartment, leaking through the wall. When the hot water closet, inside of our apartment, just feet from our kitchen and bathroom, was opened, it was honestly shocking. Black mold covering the air filter, floor and walls. We had been living like this for almost 6 months, and it obviously was also not inspected before move in! My cats and I had been dealing with unexplained illnesses for months that only finally started to clear up after moving out of the building, and being treated by medical professionals. The Haven refused to replace the vinyl flooring that was bubbling due to the dampness from the water leak and smell of mold. During this same time, buildings drinking water TESTED POSITIVE FOR E.COLI AND THEY HAD TO TURN OFF OUR WATER AND DRAIN THE PIPES IN THE ENTIRE BUILDING. This left us with no other choice but to break our lease and move in one of the biggest snow storms in recent history with only two weeks to prepare. We spent thousands of dollars unexpectedly in moving costs and deposit for the new home after only living here for 6 months of our 15 month lease.
