I lived here for almost four years and honestly liked the building itself, but the move-out process really ruined the experience. After moving out, our entire deposit was wiped out and we were told we still owed money. We spent hours cleaning, patching small screw holes, and trying to leave the apartment in good shape. Even then, we were charged for floors, walls, stovetop resurfacing, a vanity drawer, and oven cleaning. In my opinion, most of what they pointed to looked like normal wear and ...

tear after almost four years, not major damage. The frustrating part is that we have not been given clear invoices, or calculations, or proof explaining how they came up with the charges... Future tenants: take photos and videos of EVERYTHING when you move in and move out. Save every email, text, payment record, and document. There were other issues too such as disorganized communication, apartment info mix-ups, my bike stolen from inside the building, and multiple sleepless nights from alarm issues. Management also once sent us a photo from inside the building about cardboard in the trash chute, which felt excessive, very invasive and uncomfortable, especially because it appeared to show another resident in their pajamas and addressed to me implying i was the person in the photo... Overall, I liked living here, but the move-out and deposit process left a really bad impression. I’ll update this review if the issue is resolved fairly.

Transparency Issues With Move-Out Charges

I lived at the Poplar for nearly 4 years. It was great at the beginning, but got worse over time, especially with the change in management. The most disappointing part was moving out. We were shocked when we were charged with flooring repairs, wall damage, stovetop resurfacing, and vanity drawer replacement taking essentially the full cost of our security deposit. After looking at the photographs, many of the conditions documented appear consistent with ordinary wear and tear that happen over 4 ...

years. What is most concerning is the lack of transparency. We were informed by phone that the charges had been prorated based on the length of our tenancy (although they said a couple years over the phone). But no documentation or calculations were provided to explain how the amounts were determined. We formally requested invoices, supporting documentation, and depreciation calculations. I will update this review if management provides satisfactory documentation or resolves this appropriately.

The concierges at the Poplar and Darien are absolutely the best! Always friendly, always helpful. The facilities are better than most 4 star resorts - excellent fitness rooms, lounges and terrace with rooftop swimming pools, grilling areas, splash pad and dog runs. It's evident that the property management wants to make this a great place to live and that's reflected in the care of the facilities and the great staff.

Don't expect your deposit back on time...poor management

After leaving our apartment intact back in 6/30/23 and leaving in this building for 2 years, we are been ghosted by the management to get our deposit back, we paid our rent in time and agreed to a higher deposit when signed our lease, its very disappointing to have no response from them now. And apparently we are not the only ones they havent paid their deposit back, look around! not worth the hassle...

Renters beware! 72hrs before my move, the building manager informed my boyfriend (via email not even a phone call) that the apartment will not be ready for another two weeks. She did not rectify and said to me “this is actually not my fault.” I’m so disappointed because something that should be exciting has turned sour. Hoping someone from corporate reaches out.

She is very professional and gets things done for the tenants immediately. Thankful the Poplar now has a great Building Manager. to handle issues. The concierge crew is super personable, Ron is the best in my opinion. Always asking how my days are and remembering small details about our conversations. Amenities- The amenities here are priceless. Hot tub for the winter, grills with heaters above as well so you can cook on colder nights. Pools that are heated as well so you can enjoy spring fall AND summer, with lounge chairs and cabanas you can soak up the sun in year round. The gym is top of the line, and comes with saunas steam rooms massage chairs and tanning. There's multiple communal bathrooms throughout the building and showers as well if you need to use them. All maintained and well constructed. Lifestyle- There's nothing better than waking up and looking out your window to the city skyline or ben franklin with a cup of coffee. The bike room is useful if you use a bike, parking garage is secure and keeps your car dry in the rain, and the apartments themselves are beautiful with stainless steel appliances, high ceilings, and LOADS of natural light. This place is a dream, just go ahead and take a tour and you'll be signing by the end of the first hallway.
