Try to take your deposit no matter what

I've stayed here twice, about 10 years apart. I figured I would give it a second try since the first time wasn't terrible and the complex was close to where I needed to live. There's plenty of pools and BBQ pit areas to entertain friends and family if they visit. The landscaping is nice except during the summer when the heat kills the grass. I never had any issues with neighbors and it's a pretty quiet complex unless the college students throw parties.
Now for the negative. The staff was nice ...
but didn't do their jobs very well. I rented a one bedroom on the bottom floor which is a desirable unit. The dishwasher was not secured properly and had to be fixed twice in one week. The sliding door track to the patio was dirty, and it made the door not slide very well. Most of the interior doors came loose at the hinge and I had to screw them back in several times in the four months I was there. They painted the apartment just before I moved in but then charged me $330 for paint when I moved out. I never put anything on the walls, nor did I let them get dirty. When I contested this charge, they took several weeks to get back to me, and even then, told me that I needed to email the GSF company to bring up the issue. GSF took several more weeks to respond and just indicated they were charging me despite not ever trying to resolve the problem. They also tried to tell me that my apartment reeked of smoke, which is strange because I don't smoke. When I told them that it could have been from a neighboring unit since the air ducts are all attached, they said, "Oh yeah I guess." They also tried to charge me for a hole in the patio wall which was there when I moved in. I pointed it out to the office worker, but she never completed the initial move in report, so they tried to charge me for the damage. Luckily, I had taken my own photo which was time stamped. They also charged me a $220 cleaning fee because they found a "few crumbs in the microwave and a cobweb on the ceiling". They will nickel and dime you over everything to keep your deposit. It's a nice complex in a safe area with a lot of entertainment and shopping nearby, but the units are overpriced for their size and besides one or two of the office staff, they aren't very helpful at all. I would not recommend living here unless you plan on staying for a few years to prolong the headache of jumping through financial hoops when you move out.
