October 4, 2025 - Review from Apartments.comI moved into Whitcomb Terrace sight unseen, and I’ve been really happy with my experience so far. The apartment was clean and in great condition when I arrived. Ebony in the office was friendly, informative, and very helpful throughout the process, which made the move-in feel easy and welcoming. I’d definitely recommend Whitcomb Terrace to anyone looking for a comfortable, well-kept place to live.
Worst Apartment Complex
August 27, 2023 - Review from Apartments.comThe apartment walls are paper thin, you can hear everything that goes on in everyone’s apartment! Loud rude neighbors which management really didn’t do anything to keep the noise level down! The apartments are mold infected! Myself & other neighbors had mold in our apartments! My apartment had a flood which was caused by the laundry room next to my apartment & a leak from the neighbor’s tub above me! The flood was taking care of right away, but the leak in the bathroom ceiling took a month to get ...repaired! The laundry room doesn’t have an air vent to connect to the outside for the dryer, which is causing the walls in the hall to sweat & feel like a sauna which is also causing the mold! June 28, 2021 - Review from Apartments.comI have not had a good experience. I have tried to be understanding toward this apartment complex. I have been patient, kind and respectful. Consistently, the maintenance requests have not been resolved. The most recent problems: leaking in my bedroom ceiling above my bed. 5am I awoke to water dripping in my bed. Later that same day, I discovered that water was leaking in through the patio window area. I asked for a wet vac so that I could get the water out of carpet. I was told that ...carpet cleaners were being sent out on that day. I thought this was unusual, but I was assured they were coming out. Of course, this did not occur. I was left to use towels, blankets and sheets to absorb the water. I had to use my electric heater to attempt to dry the area. I am currently still dealing with this problem. During the winter months, I had numerous problems with my heat and electric in the apartment. Oh! I almost forgot about the leaking in the closet which destroyed some of my jewelry products that I sell to help pay my rent. My apartment is very outdated. In my opinion, you really need to know your rights as a tenant. You need to become familiar with the process for filing a complaint. November 16, 2020 - Review from Apartments.comSo one of the main reasons I moved into this apartment was because of the convenience of having a washer and dryer literally by my door.. but the laundry room kept flooding and they decided to lock it and it’s been locked since June. I’ve been emailing and calling the Assistant Manager so I decided to email the Property Manager and the response was “it’s closed until further notice” Very inconsiderate and unprofessional. I do not recommend moving here and I can’t wait until my lease is up.

I also find the staff that works here to be very pleasant and respectful. I’ve had only one problem since I’ve been here and it was rectified immediately.I am in a two bedroom two bath apartment and is plenty of room for myself and my sister we enjoy living here very much.The only reason I’m giving up my apartment and not renewing my lease is because my sister passed while I was ...here so, I am moving back home to Chicago.I will miss the quiet of my apartment, my private bathroom and my patio was beautiful I used it for reading and enjoying a glass of wine at night. Parking was excellent never had a problem finding a spot close to my building. I would like to thank everyone in office mainly Tamara for always treating me with kindness and respect. What I really would like everyone to know is that living at Whitcomb Apartments was a great pleasure for me and my sister we enjoyed it immensely. My building was very quiet and clean the laundry area was nice and you also got a storage area for summer or winter things.If you move your family there you would always have a feeling of home! SAVE YOURSELF! I HAVE TO GO TO COURT!
July 29, 2019 - Review from Apartments.comI was shown a model apartment, paid my deposit and was given a completely different unit that was not thoroughly cleaned. Apartment has spiders that they fail to mention and you will be hit with random charges. You can only pay your monthly rent by money order/check which is their way of hoping you'd be late. NO cash no debit cards. I attempted to buy a money order and the gas station was out, currency exchange closed. I told the manager and she would not work with me despite the fact that I've ...never been late. Rushed the next morning to buy the money order and turned it in 5 mins after they opened the leasing office. I was hit with a $50 late charge that will inquire late charges per day if it wasn't paid immediately. I tried to talk to the manager again since it was only 5 mins late, she did NOT CARE. All utilities are electric and NOT included in the rent. This is a separate payment of about $200 or more. You also have to pay ANOTHER payment for sewer, water, and garbage. You are required to get "renters insurance" and put them on your policy. This is another extra payment. There are no light fixtures in the bedrooms so you have to buy yourself lamps! I’ve have to pay a towing fee because they towed my rental car. DO NOT move here! DO NOT MOVE HERE! This was my first apartment and I was fooled, I will not be renewing my lease. (This was my review a year ago) I’ve since moved and am going to court with these people. I’m not the only one that have had to go through this with them. DO NOT MOVE HERE.Read More

There’s HARDLY any parking and the extra parking they try to make you pay for.. Anyone that I know who’s lived here had a bad experience as well.

Until I started having issue and having to deal with maintenance and that office manager. First my air goes out for two weeks and she didn’t give me anything off my rent because a/c is not important to her. Then I had a leak in bathroom under my tile anf they came 3x to fix that and it’s still not right. Then maintenance dropped some type of glue in my hallway on carpet that won’t come out. ...Then my freezer went out my food spoiled she didn’t want to reimburse me for that took 5 days to get new fridge then it was very smaller than my last one. The office manger is very rude I have never seen her only knw her name because it’s at the bottom of notices.. I spoke to her once and she was very rude. I wouldn’t recommend no one one I no one to live here not worth it at all the prices you pay in because you’re in merrillville and that’s it. Dnt let the nice looks fool you.
