There's few willing to debate that rock music was made to be played loud, although your fellow apartment-ites may not exactly embrace the concept when you start blasting the Jimi Hendrix box set at 11 p.m. on a Wednesday. So keep the peace in your apartment complex the next time you feel the need to bang your head, and take a trip to the legendary Cotton Club. Housed within the walls of a former Baptist church basement, the Cotton Club may sound like a blues-laced crooner's paradise, but make no mistake - rock rules this roost, with both rising regional stars and national guitar gods gracing the stage on a weekly basis. The ceilings are low, the drink prices are lower, and you'll have plenty of time to get to know your fellow rockers as the crowd level often exceeds 'intimate' and heads right into the range of 'up close and personal'. So do your new friends a favor and be sure to don extra deodorant prior to heading out for your night of loud. A secondary smaller club space can be found downstairs from the main hall, although claustrophobic music fans may want to avoid the truly narrow lemon squeeze of a room. Still, for those that need to have the amp power blow their hair back, the lower level truly goes to 11. Regardless of which floor you hang your hair on, the Cotton Club is sure to help you rock out with your...well, you know.
