When it comes to live music, few places do it better than The Mohawk. Bringing in the best in local and touring independent, underground and alternative acts, with acts ranging from hip-hop, to pop, to rock, to singer/songwriter, there almost always something going on, and usually a lively crowd ready to dig the scene with all they have. The club is broken up into three different stages, and usually each has a killer band playing. The indoor stages are perfect for smaller bands or singer/songwriters, giving a intimate, cozy space for the artists to really bring out the feeling of their sound. There are also canvas screens perfect for those bands with heavy visual components. Don't let the fact that it's smaller fool you, it still has one of the greatest sound systems on Red River. For larger acts, the back patio is spacious and ready to accommodate just about anything. You can relax out back and listen to some of your favorite bands, with plenty of space on the two story outdoor patio to have a drink, while still being able to see all the action on stage. In times of big Austin events, The Mohawk is always a hot spot, so Apartment-ites wanting to experience the true color of many of the major festivals, benefits or parties around town need only take the short walk down to this hopping venue. It's always hot spot for both day parties and nightly shows during Southwest by Southwest, and a hot spot for after-shows at The Austin City Limits Festival and Fun Fun Fun Fest, many times bringing in some of the biggest acts of the festival. Over the years, The Mohawk has featured such major artists as The Decemberists, Bishop Allen and Shearwater, as well many local favorites.
