Austin apartment residents know there are some strange names in the restaurant market around town, but not many can meet the weirdness of ZAX: Pints and Plates. By the restaurant's name, you're left to wonder if you're walking into a flatware store. Worry not, apartment-ite, ZAX is actually a fun, hip bar and restaurant catering to anyone looking for a cold drink, great food and a entertaining atmosphere. The place is called ZAX: Pints and Plates, and we've gone over what's on the plates, but what about if you want a pint? Well, ZAX's isn't about to let you down there either. With plenty of local beers on tap, including brews from right here in Austin, as well as Harp and Guinness, you're likely to find just the pint to please you. They also have a great number of beers by bottle from all across the globe, from Britain, to Mexico, to Germany, and of course Belgium. Don't let the strange name fool you, ZAX: Pints and Plates is quickly becoming a real Austin hot spot, and is the perfect spot for Austin apartment residents to grab a delicious dinner and a nice tall pint. As far as menus go, ZAX is one of the most varied in town. Combining delicious seafood, with mouth-watering burgers, and fresh seafood, the hardest choice is not finding something on the extensive menu that you'd enjoy, but instead picking out which of the dishes you'll sadly have to miss this time around. You could go into ZAX for a week and never eat the same thing twice, and be delighted with each and every meal. For starting off your meal, there are plenty of delicious appetizers for your choosing. Seafood is prevalent here, with crab cakes, fried calamari and grilled shrimp, but you can also find some Italian favorites such as friend polenta or bruschetta. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, then you can try out their delicious tortilla soup, or soup of the day, or one of their delicious quesadillas. No matter what you choose, it's a nice start to what is sure to be a fantastic meal. Continuing on to the main course, your options open up quite a bit. In the mood for some pasta? Try their Lasagna or Manicotti; want a burger, try one of their many varieties, including the South Texas Burger, topped with fresh avocado, or their Blues Burger, with bleu cheese, crushed black pepper; steaks? Porkchops? Chicken? Got those too. Of course, there is a great selection of delicious seafood as well, from fresh fish dishes to seared shellfish, you're unlikely to leave without finding something you like.
