One such option is the Cranbrook House and Gardens, and beautiful trip into Detroit's past, and a pleasant way to spend a sunny afternoon, frolicking through the garden and enjoying Detroit's gorgeous summer weather, as well as taking in one of the most beautiful piece of architecture the city has to offer. The Cranbrook home is Detroit's oldest manor, built in 1908 by famed Detroit architect Albert Kahn. All the furnishings in the home are exactly as they existed in the past, when they were crafted by some of the top artists of their time. Walking into this stately, Arts-and-crafts Style manor is like taking a trip back in time, and you'll be wowed by the majestic beauty of it all. The house, however, is only the half of it, with plenty of beauty waiting for you right outside in their colorful, stately gardens. The gardens at Cranbrook take up forty acres, and are full of vibrant flowerbeds, plenty of beautiful works of sculpture, running streams, fountains, and even a lake. There are a number of different types of gardens on display, including a bog garden, an Oriental garden, a wild flower garden, an herb garden, and of course a formal garden. All these come together to create one beautiful pastiche of color and texture, making the experience well worth the price of admission. For breathtaking look into the beauty of history of Detroit, this is one spot nature-loving apartment-ites should not miss, one landmark that may be overlooked by some, but is sure to stay with you for quite some time.
