Whether or not you are a war enthusiast, The American Military Museum is an intriguing place to find out about the American way in defense of our country. We can be thankful that we have a Charleston apartment in which to live instead of a cold cave like some of the soldiers in World War II, or a sandy tent like those who fought in Desert Storm. Thousands of artifacts populate the museum, including guns, rifles and edged weapons, insignia, belts, medals and personal equipment, and uniforms, swords and flags. These items come from the earliest war in the United States, that of the American Revolutionary War, to the War in Iraq. Civil War items exist here, and some items are bright and colorful uniforms, epaulets and head gear. Other wars represented include the War of 1812, the Spanish-American War, both World Wars, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and Afghanistan. The museum recognizes all branches of the American military; Army soldier, Navy sailor, Air Force airman, Marine amphibian and Coast Guard protector. One of a kind military miniatures are on display at exhibits in the museum, depicting war scenes or other military action not seen on your Charleston apartment television. The American Military Museum is open Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm, and on Sundays from 1 pm to 5 pm. The cost for admission is just $7 for adults, $5 for seniors 55+ and veterans, Free for active duty, $3 for students and $2 for children ages 6 to 12. The museum is located downtown in the Aquarium Wharf next to the South Carolina Aquarium, and near the Charleston IMAX. Established in 1987, the museum is dedicated to the men and women who have served, are serving or will serve the US military. Whether you're a veteran or a potential military recruit, or just want to recognize the American soldier, make a visit from your Charleston apartment today.
