For those wishing to expand their knowledge of both exotic and locally familiar culture, a trip to the National Museum of Mexican Art is highly recommended. Featuring a rotating lineup of exhibitions, the Museum focuses upon photographs, paintings and various installations of Mexican culture. Autumn brings with it the always popular Day of the Dead presentation, complete with sugar skulls, spiritual renderings and highly colorful celebratory splashes, while traveling exhibits such as the current "African Presence in Mexico" feature are always being updated. Onsite classes are also offered throughout the year, allowing your family and friends to share in communal arts and crafts with traditional flair. Admission to the museum is free, making it a great and inexpensive way to spend a rainy day, although donations are accepted if you are feeling charitable. The gift shop is highly recommended for those hard-to-shop-for artistic friends, offering a wide selection of tapestries, books, posters and more, and the local pottery selection alone is cause enough to celebrate.
