There are few things more personally satisfying than curling up in your apartment with a good book. What's more, considering yourself a bit of an intellectual, you tend to prefer the classics - novels from the likes of Fitzgerald, Poe and, of course, Hemmingway line your shelves. And much like the author it's named for, Hemmingway's Bistro has the unique ability to instantly transport you back to a specific place in time. For Hemmingway's that time would be 1930's Paris; true enough, the eatery is adorned with slow moving fans, a coolly indifferent marble floor and a general air of relaxed class that permeates all who enter its doors. Fittingly, the attire is a tad more upscale (think crisp collars and fashionable skirts), although the laid back vibe prevents suits from dominating the tables in lieu of more casual wear. The cuisine is, of course, decidedly French - classics such as rich onion soup, mixed-green salad topped with poached egg, and crispy, battered frog legs (try it!) round out the appetizer selections, while cream-laden entrees tend to look to the sea for inspiration (mussels, whitefish and sea bass are recommended). Top it all off with a modestly priced French wine (under $10 per glass) and a decedent dish of Grand Marnier-laden soufflé and you've got a Hemmingway experience worth writing home about.
