If you're bored of watching horror movies in your apartment and you want more of 3-dimensional scare-filled entertainment, check out The House of Nightmares in the Brewery District on South Front St. The publicity for this mini amusement park of terrors is admittedly done on a budget (they've got no website to speak of other than a myspace page), but this doesn't matter because the props and makeup used is of very high quality. The entire thing takes place in a 70,000 square foot warehouse. The set pieces are extremely well-done and creative, and the actors are quite convincing in their ghoulishness (wait, were they actors?). The set up of the scenes maximizes the space quite well and the use of music in the right places provides a fittingly chilling vibe, and the pacing of the experience never lags. The only negative is that there are massive lines to get in, and the park is only open on weekends until 11pm or midnight. But don't let that put you off - this truly is a bone-chilling experience, right from the waiting lobby to the final set piece. Most haunted houses take about 10-15 minutes to go to, but this one takes at least a half hour...if you dare.
