If you're an apartment-ite who just likes to hang out in a bar/restaurant, The Old Mohawk might be the place for you. Located in the German Village neighborhood on - where else? - Mohawk St, this bar has been around since 1933 (hence the "old"). The building itself is over 100 years old, but still maintains a relaxed, modern feel. You'll find a lot of comfort food here, from turtle soup to fish 'n' chips or a traditional German Bratwurst dinner, and prices range for $9-$11 for entrées. Veggie apartment-ites can drool over a crustless pizza, mac 'n' cheese or veggie paella, but the restaurant also offers signature sandwiches and weekly specials (usually involving an all-you-can-eat of one item). But the strongest draw here is the beer - they have a range of Belgian and German ales, as well as some rare flavored brews and IPAs, and there's a rotating menu of cocktails to round things out. The décor and art hanging on the walls are pretty eclectic, with a funky, low-fi coffeehouse vibe, but the bar itself has an endearingly tacky, London-style pub feel. The only negative is that it's not open too late (between 10pm-12am), which promotes less of a bar scene than most other restaurants in the city.
