Speedway is located south and west of downtown. Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a short distance away. This community is very family-oriented and takes great pride in being a place where families thrive and live life to the fullest.
Even though there are mostly residential homes in Speedway, you can still find a multitude of condos and apartments that will meet almost any need. College students, young couples, and families can find the types of housing they are looking for.

Located in the northeast section of Indianapolis proper, Castleton is known for its shopping centers, large number of restaurants, and abundance of apartment complexes. It is one of the most popular areas of the city for holiday shopping and celebrating over dinner.
With small ponds and numerous green spaces throughout, Castleton is one of my favorite spots to take my family. From November through December, everything is lit up in true holiday fashion. During the rest of the year, you will find a variety of activities to attend.

Beech Grove is in the southeastern section of Indianapolis. Although the area is primarily residential, you can always find plenty to do in the area. There are many shopping centers and eating establishments. If you like to bowl, you're in luck. There are two bowling centers in Beech Grove.
This small city within a city is full of parks and recreational areas where you will enjoy raising your family. Whether you are looking for a house or an apartment, you can find affordable housing!

Eagledale is a small neighborhood nestled between Speedway and the downtown area. It is located within a few blocks of the White River, giving residents access to plenty of outdoor activities. This neighborhood offers the best of what Indy has to offer.
Located throughout the residential neighborhoods, you can find plenty of rental homes and apartment complexes. It offers a quiet place for students to study as well as a safe place for families to live comfortably.
Top 5 Universities/Schools
Indianapolis has many top schools where students can work towards a career they will be proud of. While two of the schools are outside of Indianapolis, they are within driving distance and are top-rated, nationally ranked universities.
IUPUI
IUPUI, or Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis, is a former blend of both IU and Purdue campuses. Although the schools have divided the campus, both offer a variety of programs for students who are working their way through the various levels of their education. Both schools still occupy the campus, but their collaboration ended in 2024.
Purdue University is one of the leading agricultural schools in the country. It is located in West Lafayette, Indiana, which is approximately an hour's drive from Indy. Even though there is a satellite campus in Indianapolis, many students will benefit from attending class at the main location.
Indiana University
Much like Purdue, Indiana University is located an hour away, but to the south of Indianapolis in Bloomington. IU is one of the top schools in the country for students looking for degrees in law or medicine. The school also offers several business degrees and fine arts programs.
Butler University
Butler University was established in 1855 and is one of the premier private schools in the state. With over 60 academic programs, students can follow almost any career path they like. The school is located close to downtown and offers students a variety of athletic and fine arts programs.
Ivy Tech
Indiana Vocational Technical College was established in 1963 and has satellite campuses located across the state. It is the perfect starting point for students who are undecided about their career path. All courses are easily transferred, and many can be completed online.
A Brief History of Indy
Settled in 1821 at the fork of Fall Creek and the White River, Indianapolis became the state capital in 1825. The land was acquired from the Lenne Lenape, or Delaware Nation, who were native to the area. The city's close proximity to viable waterways made it an excellent location for growth and trading.
Railroads quickly made their way through the area, encouraging even further growth. As more and more settlers moved through the area, many chose to make Indianapolis their forever home. The land was ideal for farming and new businesses continued to move into the city.
Indianapolis became known as the “Crossroads of America”. Before long, major industrial leaders were calling the city home. Today, companies like Eli Lily, Cummins, and Salesforce continually work to boost the economy and keep unemployment numbers low.
Indianapolis is a city on the move. Local residents hold closely to the native heritage that is so important to the area. From the Soldiers and Sailors Monument that sits in the circle downtown to the Eiteljorg Museum, the city is proud of its history and is continually working to preserve it for future generations.
Navigating Indianapolis
With over 890,000 residents, Indianapolis is one of the biggest cities in the Midwest. It was designed using a grid system, which makes it incredibly easy to navigate. With most of the city lying inside the I-465 loop, you can get almost anywhere in the metro area in less than 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the flow of traffic.
I-70 runs east and west through the middle of the city. I-65 and I-69 run north and south, gradually coming together towards the south side of town. Highway 31 becomes Meridian Street on the north end of town. Meridian cuts through the center of town, leading you straight to the circle and then on to the south. Washington Street heads east from the circle towards the outskirts of town.
One of the best things about driving in Indy, other than navigating the four quadrants, is that the streets are well-marked. Indianapolis takes pride in keeping its city streets clean and well-maintained. Whether you are following a map or using a GPS, it's easy to make your way from one location to another without any surprises.
Indy's Top Places of Interest
Indianapolis is full of surprises and has lots to offer anyone who wants to go exploring. No matter what your interests are, you will always find something fun and exciting to do.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park
If fast cars and spending time with friends are two of your favorite things, Indy has you covered. Memorial Day weekend brings the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In mid-summer, NASCAR visits the speedway for the running of the Brickyard 400.
On Labor Day weekend, it's time for a little top fuel fun at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. The NHRA Summer Nationals bring the dragsters and funny cars to town. This four-day event is jam-packed with races, meet and greets, and one of the biggest swap meets in the Midwest.
The Children's Museum
The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is one of the biggest in the country. There are several floors of educational and interactive exhibits that kids of all ages can enjoy. Parents can even join in on the fun! The museum has so many activities for kids to try, it will be several hours before they get bored. The museum is a place where kids can explore and learn using “hands-on” techniques. Learning is meant to be fun!
White River State Park
White River State Park is one of the largest green spaces in Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Zoo is nearby as well. The State Park hosts a wide variety of activities throughout the year. There are numerous walking trails and wide open areas for families to explore. The park also includes a state-of-the-art athletic complex. Bring the family and be prepared to spend the day enjoying all that the park has to offer. You won't be disappointed.
The Eiteljorg Museum
The Eiteljorg Museum is one of Indy's hidden gems. This beautiful building is dedicated to preserving the history, traditions, and culture of the Native Americans from Indiana, as well as other areas of the country as well. Rare artifacts, regalia, weapons, and a variety of other items are on display at the museum. The museum hosts several events each year to ensure the cultural heritage of the original inhabitants of our country is never forgotten.
Soldiers and Sailors Monument
The Soldiers and Sailors Monument sits in the center of Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis. Officially dedicated on May 15, 1902, the monument serves as a constant reminder of all the Hoosiers who have fought in the many armed conflicts, starting with the Revolutionary War and continuing on until today. It sits in the center of the city and is one of the largest memorials of its kind.

Bazbeaux
Bazbeaux is THE place to go if you want to try something new. I eat there every chance I get. They offer pizzas that will make you want to order an extra just so you can take it home and enjoy it later. This is one place you have to try at least once!
Cafe Patachou
Cafe Patachou has a full, farm-to-table menu full of wholesome and absolutely delicious dishes. If you want a hearty meal, this is the restaurant for you. Stop in and relax for a little while. The Cafe offers a welcoming environment where you can eat your meal and actually enjoy the experience.
St. Elmo Steak House
This classic, steakhouse-style restaurant has won numerous awards. St. Elmo Steak House is well-known throughout the area for using the highest quality cuts of meat available. You can get one of the restaurant's famous shrimp cocktails and follow it up with a beverage from the extensive drink menu.
Yats
Yats is the place to go if you are hungry for something spicy and full of flavor. Specializing in Cajun and Creole foods, this restaurant will provide you with the food adventure you are looking for. They offer a full menu of drinks that you can enjoy in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
