Opulence certainly describes the Belmont Mansion, although it may not describe your Nashville apartment. This magnificent display of affluence from Nashville's early settlers will have you in awe. Residents of Belmont Mansion apartments can tour one of the most elaborate antebellum mansions of the south that comprise 36 rooms in 19,000 square feet. The gardens surrounding the "summer home" of the Acklan family, Louisiana cotton plantation owners, were intricately built with many new plant varieties introduced at the time. Laid out in the style of the Victorian era, the designs of today represent the methods of that time and are wonderful to walk through and enjoy - with no comparison to your Belmont Mansion apartment's style. The Estate, built in the mid-1800's, included both the mansion and the lavish gardens, as well as an art gallery, a conservatory, an aviary and believe it or not, a lake and a zoo! Today, residents of Nashville apartments can still see some of the significant sculptures collected in Rome, as well as original guilt frames over the original marble mantelpieces. For just $10, Nashville apartment dwellers can enjoy the sights of the Grand Salon of the Belmont Mansion (and the entire mansion itself) considered to be "the most elaborate domestic interior built in antebellum Tennessee." Parking is free, and as it is located on the north end of Belmont University, you may have to search for a place during class hours. The hours for Belmont Mansion apartment dwellers (as well as other visitors) to visit the museum are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunday from 1 pm to 4 pm. It is open every day except for major holidays, and is available for rent for weddings, receptions and other special events.
