Many historical figures hail from the great state of Philadelphia, including patriots, celebrities and writers, but one of the most notable figures to make his home in Philly is Edgar Allen Poe, and apartment-ites looking for a way to find out more about this enigmatic figure can a trip over to the Edgar Allen Poe Historical Site, where you delve into the home, as well as the mind, of one of America's greatest literary figures, and see what life must have been like in days gone by. Unlike many historical sites, where they spruce things up to make them look new and shiny, as if you were traveling through time, Poe's house has been left to arrested decay, as to look like they did back in the days of Poe's life. Along with the original house, there are also two adjorning homes housing exhibits and paraphernalia from Poe's life, including a reading room decorated according to Poe's "Philosophy or Furniture", and a film screening room. Another room holds a complete collection Poe's work, including criticism, as well as audio productions of his most famous stories. A statue depicting a stately raven, made famous by Poe's legendary poem, sits outside, and a trip to the basement brings to mind eerie similarities to one of his most famous short stories, "The Black Cat". Literature lovers have to make a trip to this historic locale, where the Philadelphia of the early nineteen hundreds comes to life right before your eyes.
