I have worked and raised my family in Poughkeepsie, and it is of great significance.to my children, friends, and our wider community. The waterfront area in particular is a favorite family locale that offers relaxation in a lush park setting and a laid-back atmosphere. A scenic spot with a wide panoramic view in proximity to restaurants, museums, hiking trails, and the lower main street business district. The Walkway over the Hudson, an historic landmark, is a favorite attraction for locals as well as visitors to the city. The Metro North Railroad is a stone's throw from the waterfront park and is a critical transportation infrastructure for workers in transit to all destinations; New York City in the south to Albany and Canada in the north. The commute, although hectic in peak season, is the glue that provides cohesiveness for the many commuters desiring to travel by rail across the region. Additionally, there is an opportunity to access local educational resources via quality colleges such as Marist, Vassar, Culinary Institute of America (CIA), and College University, New York (CUNY). My experience of the Fairview community is an overall mood of quietness, a sense of community and strong social connectivity. Fairview is nestled amidst natural greenery surrounded by vibrant green spaces. The year-round appearance of lush vegetation serves as a backdrop for quaint dwellings. With the City of Poughkeepsie to the south and Hyde Park to the north, this enclave is a quiet presence that offers easy access to key businesses and transportation, colleges and medical facilities. Westchester Medical Center is a mere 5 minutes away, and so too is the Vasser Brother's Hospital. The Dutchess Community College Campus is an "extension" of the community, with Marist College and the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) 10 minutes away. I have traversed the community frequently, and I am impressed with its cleanliness, the warmth and kindness of the residents. The community is bordered by U.S RTE 9 to the west and U.S. 9G to the east, with connecting roadways offering commuters many choices to safely commute to key locations for local and interstate travel.

The hamlet of Arlington is surrounded by Hyde Park to the north, LaGrange to the east, and Wappinger to the southeast. The western border is the City of Poughkeepsie. It is known as a desirable locale for raising families, fostering community participation, while boasting a robust school system that integrates pupils from the surrounding townships as well as those within the district. The Academy Street Historic District offers a taste of historic architecture situated among pristine lawns and year-round greenery. The area is a quiet statement of suburban living within easy access to the Poughkeepsie Business District as well as the major transportation hubs. The Dutchess Transit Hub is minutes away, within easy walking distance from Academy Street, which stretches from RTE 44-55 west to dissect the South Road corridor in the vicinity of the Central Hudson power company. The ongoing revitalization efforts have shown visible improvements to basic infrastructure along the strip with much-needed upgrades to several buildings and business facades. Key markers are the Lucky Platt Building, The Academy — a newly renovated space featuring penthouses, food services, entertainment spaces, and confectionery shops offering delicious snacks. The Sundaze Burger Joint is a public favorite, yet there is so much more to enjoy, including pizzerias, smoked grills, coffee shops, and other businesses. The area is served by a wide range of humanitarian organizations such as The Catholic Charity, Social Action Network, The Adrianne Library, and Vasser Brothers Hospital. All types of residents are welcome as the area supports retirees as well as business operators and other professionals. Residents are at a strategic location to access all major thoroughfares to explore the immediate resources the location offers. For me, this small yet impactful strip with its unique architecture and quiet grace is a gem in the bustling city of Poughkeepsie.
