Altogether, WakeMed employs over 10,000 employees at three hospitals and eight outpatient clinics throughout the county.

Longview

Longview Gardens is a large neighborhood just west of New Bern Avenue, making it a quick commute (five minutes or fewer) to WakeMed. Crabtree Valley

Crabtree Valley would be my top pick for folks working at Fidelity or at several other businesses in this location. It's practically right next to it on the same major road. This is not only close to work, but shopping enthusiasts shouldn’t neglect the massive, three-story Crabtree shopping mall, home to numerous stores, including Belk, Macy’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Northwest Raleigh

Northwest Raleigh is just a six-minute drive from Fidelity. ApartmentHomeLiving has several pages of apartments, condos, and townhomes in this busy neighborhood. You can also find nearby recreation and dining establishments, such as Bowlero Raleigh, Waraji Japanese Restaurant, and a nice breakfast place, First Watch.

Brookhaven

There are plenty of Brookhaven apartments near Fidelity after about an eight-minute drive. On the way home from work, you can enjoy a cocktail or meal at the Relish Craft Kitchen & Bourbon Bar. Hikers and joggers should also spend time at the wooded Brookhaven Park for slow or medium-paced cardio and sightseeing.

Six Forks

Six Forks is about 12 minutes from Fidelity and close to several natural and manmade ponds. You should grab your morning jolt on the way to work at Sola Coffee Cafe. In the evening, consider having dinner at Gonza Tacos Y Tequila to enjoy some solid Mexican food and margaritas.

Martin Marietta Materials

Martina Marietta Materials was founded in 1993, has its headquarters in Raleigh, and possesses almost $5 billion in revenue. This is actually a spin-off company of Lockheed Martin, specializing in aggregates, building-construction materials, and road-construction materials.

Pro Tip: try outdoor camping in the autumn in Raleigh after North Carolina’s heat and humidity finally abates.

Umstead

You can certainly find an affordable Umstead apartment near Martin Marietta and the Raleigh-Durham Airport. This neighborhood is directly northeast of the material supplier if you stay on Glenwood Avenue and pass the Briar Creek Memorial Gardens before the large intersection with I-540. If you go southeast from Umstead, you’ll quickly reach the very reputable Briar Creek Country Club, a great place to host weddings and large family reunions.

Barton Creek Bluffs

This community is slightly farther away than the other neighborhoods (14-minute commute), but there are plenty of Barton Creek Bluffs apartments near Martin Marietta. I would go with this option if you want to live in the quieter, northern part of Raleigh with a much lower population density. Plus, you can literally swing around in trees and have a great time at the TreeRunner Adventure Park & Putt Forest, a delightful little amusement park just eight minutes east.

Cisco Systems

Cisco Systems is one of a few notable tech companies in Raleigh. It has worldwide revenue north of $50 billion and employs about 7,500 locally. Its Raleigh operations are part of the Research Triangle Park off Davis Drive, southeast of IBM. The only caveat to this location is that it's a little more remote than other Raleigh businesses, but it’s close to the airport and not from either Chapel Hill or Durham, North Carolina.

Preston

The Preston neighborhood sits on the edge of where Raleigh meets Cary, North Carolina. Its nearest attraction is the highly reviewed Morrisville Community Park. Preston is another neighborhood known for cost-effective housing with rental rates as low as $984 per month, something that is quite hard to find in most parts of Raleigh, nowadays.

North Hills

North Hills requires a short commute of 22 minutes, but doesn’t involve too much fighting against traffic once you get through Highway 40 (just avoid rush hour!). This community features plenty of access to pools and fitness facilities at various apartment complexes, ideal for young professionals with active lifestyles. If you want a novel dining experience and can’t decide on Japanese food or burgers, then try both at The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar.

Southwest Raleigh

Southwest Raleigh has about the same commute as North Hills, just from a slightly different direction, but still going along I-40 to get to Cisco Systems. It's an excellent part of the city if you desire to be within a reasonable distance of everything. Southwest Raleigh has Lake Johnson to its west along with the Lonnie Poole Golf Course to its east. Downtown Raleigh is less than 15 minutes away as well.

UNC Rex Healthcare

UNC Rex Healthcare is a large, non-profit hospital on 4420 Lake Boone Trail. It features 665 beds, a helipad for patient transport, a children’s pediatric center, a breast-imaging center, and many other vital facilities. This is also Raleigh’s oldest hospital still in operation (est. 1894). This important medical complex handles over 50,000 emergency-room visits per year and employs thousands of skilled healthcare professionals and support staff.

Harden Place

The Harden Place neighborhood is within a mile of UNC Rex Healthcare. The best nearby restaurant is almost certainly the Guasaca South American Grill, home to several novel Latin American dishes you won’t find elsewhere. It’s just north of the Cloud Chamber for the Tree and Sky, another pleasant outdoor-picnicking site in Raleigh.

Ridge Park

Ridge Park works well for families and single urban professionals alike. This is one of the better areas for one-bedroom apartments. It's also just slightly west of UNC Rex Healthcare, close to the Lake Boone Trail on the other side of the Raleigh Beltline.

Sunset Hills

I would recommend Sunset Hills to anyone who wants to find Raleigh apartments near UNC Rex Healthcare without being too close to the business and medical district itself. It’s still only a nine-minute drive from work, but offers a quieter environment among several skyscraper apartments and condos. Sunset Hills is also only a few minutes away from the city’s Jaycee Park, a favorite for hardcore skaters in Raleigh.
