There are a surprisingly large number of places around town brewing their own beer in Detroit, so apartment-ites looking to try a little something more than they could find at most local beer holes don't have far to search, but with so many different places cooking up their own brews, it's sometimes hard to sort the wheat from the chaff. One brewery that is well worth the trip is the Rochester Mills Brewery, where you can get a large variety of beers, while also tasting delicious food from the long and varied menu, and have a blast all at the same time. As a brewery, they pride themselves, first and foremost, on their beers, and they have a quite a variety to choose from. Their top three crowd favorites include their Lazy Dale Lager, a German-style lager with malty flavor and a smooth finish, Rochester Red, their English-style ale with sweet malt flavors, and their Harvest Light, which has more of an American flavor. Other fantastic choices include their Paint Creek Porter, made with plenty of chocolate malt, their Milkshake Stout, their Plezsures Pale Ale, or their Wits Organic beer. No matter which you choose, you're likely to be surprised at just how good home-brewed beers can be. One thing that goes perfectly with these handcrafted brews is a delicious plate of their delicious vittles. Start your meal with off with some tasty fire fingers, roasted pepper hummus, fried calamari or buffalo chicken flatbread, or try one of their delicious soups, such as fresh clam chowder, or one of their many salad options. Though there a number of sandwich and pizza options, the brewery favorites section is a great place to start when it comes to main course. You can choose from traditional pub grub such as fish and chips or shepherd's pie, or you can get something completely different, such as their Muenster chicken, fish tacos, pumpkin ravioli, or even Hungarian goulash. There are plenty of other options,that you'll just have to discover for yourself, so make the trip up and be amazed.
