With enrollment at approximately 34,000 and a staff of about 6,400, San Diego State is the largest university in San Diego and third largest in the state. What differentiates SDSU from other universities is its focus on integrating students with faculty into real-life situations to prepare them for a global future. The diversity of the university is evidenced by the global leading facilities and research practices. Creativity and challenge are endorsed by faculty and students alike.

85 bachelor's degree programs are included in the following colleges: Arts and Letters, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Health and Human Services, Sciences and Professional Studies and Fine Arts. You can study Kinesiology or Music, Gerontology or Aerospace Engineering, Marketing or Political Science. The above are just a few of the options, so visit the SDSU website for further details.

A Major Academic Plan (MAP) is detailed for each undergraduate plan to outline course requirements and recommended sequencing. This assists the student in adjusting course load to his or her current lifestyle and life plan.

Master's degrees are in business, arts and fine arts, and science, as well as five concurrent degrees such as public health and social work. Doctorate and joint-doctoral programs in philosophy and education provide advanced studies for students. In addition, credential programs are available for many teaching specialties including school nursing, special education, reading and administrative services.

Playing in sports is important to many students, and SDSU, being in beautiful southern California, provides plenty of opportunity to play almost every sport including tennis, volleyball, track and field, soccer, swimming, golf, baseball, basketball and football. The Aztecs all are NCAA accredited teams.

As part of any great university, SDSU provides many student organizations, including fraternities and sororities and over 200 groups involved in recreation, honors societies, multicultural groups and professional development clubs. The Student Activities and Campus Life office can guide you in your selection, and even in building your own group. In addition, a civic learning and community engagement department engages students with the greater San Diego community and the world. Leadership, global perspective and multicultural issues are addressed to help students take action and deal with local, national and worldwide matters. Student life is important to SDSU to enrich the lives of its graduates.

The Office of Housing Administration of San Diego State University offers eight on-campus dorms and residence halls, featuring local telephone service, local cable service and internet service (except Aztec Hall). Instead of living on campus after the first couple of years, some may wish to live in an off campus San Diego apartment, of which many are available in the area. It can be a bit less restrictive than living in a dorm, where you can make your own hours and have more privacy.

To find out more about SDSU and to tour the campus, contact the university at the noted phone numbers and website address. A campus tour including a walk through the university, and an interactive admissions presentation is available by contacting the admissions department one day in advance. Counselors will be glad to meet with you before or after the tour. Go Aztecs!
