They say a man's home is his castle, and while your new apartment certainly falls under your domain, it's not exactly 'regal' in regards to the architecture. So the next time you feel the urge to bask in the royal treatment, get on your trusty steed...or car...and storm the gates of Tampa's club Castle. A long established favorite haunt of the Floridian club set, The Castle takes its gothic heritage to heart. Spires and decorative touches make you feel like you're in Romania, with two complete floors of old world flavor to keep your eyes popping until dawn. The crowd is an eccentric mix of leather, lace and t-shirt-clad punks, although the vibe is anything but exclusionary. A small manmade river (!) darkly bubbles its way past the downstairs bar, where couples gather in intimate confines to converse amongst the eclectic sounds of the legendary jukebox, which propels hipster classics ranging from T. Rex and the Cure to Al Green and Nat King Cole. The upstairs club room is a seething mass of vampiric attitude, as eyeliner-heavy she's and he's swirl to the sounds of classic new wave and beat-heavy trance. Siouxie Sioux, Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy own the playlist on most nights, although heavier industrial tracks reign on Fridays, and Monday is home to the ever-popular 80's night. The light system is aptly fit for a king, and the huge projection screen might make you question where fiction ends and reality begins, especially if they happen to be showing 'The Lost Boys'. Just be sure you make it back to your apartment before dawn...
