With a seemingly endless supply of restaurants and bars at one's disposal in the great, sunny Tampa Bay area, it can be easy for an apartment-ite to quickly get overwhelmed by the myriad of choices available. Where to go for a quick yet quality lunch? What's the best option for both live music and a DJ? And most important of all, who has the biggest...Tiki hut in all of Florida? Even if that last claim doesn't mean much to many, Tamps mainstay the Green Iguana still holds bragging rights to all of the above and more. The menu caters to the local flavor with unique, higher end flair; Bimini conch fritters dolloped with avocado mayo compete with Key West shrimp in Caribbean remoulade for starter supremacy, while the sashimi grade tuna (teamed with pickled ginger, cooling Asian cucumber and the requisite spiced wasabi mustard) earns raves with good cause. Of course, the lizard combo is always a safe bet as well, featuring a wickedly delicious sampling of coconut shrimp, pork potstickers, Thai chili and crab Rangoon. This Iguana also earned its 'green' title by offering one of the most eclectic salad selections in all of Florida; check the aptly-dubbed Buddha menu for such serenity-inducing selections as the Quan Yin (a pair of fresh seaweed salads tossed with sesame) or the Meze Buddha, which combines kalamata, spinach, artichoke hearts and crumbles of feta cheese. The nightclub vibe is in full effect at the Green Iguana after the sun goes down. And while the emphasis is placed upon the DJ's spinning the ones-and-twos in their dance floor area, odds are good you can also find an area cover band belting out the mellow grooves of Bob Marley or G. Love on the performance stage. Regardless of which you choose, this is one Lizard you won't want to stick your tongue out at.
