She was 40 minutes late to the tour without any form of communication, and said it was because of an “emergency meeting.” She quoted me for 3 different apartments and said we would be able to see all of them, no virtual tour necessary. We only saw one of them, and then she gave me a virtual tour of one other ...when I asked. It is impossible to get in contact with their onsite leasing department the phone constantly reroutes to a central third party office that is not even helpful. Prairie Shores management operates as if appointments are merely suggestions — a courtesy extended to residents only to be ignored the moment it becomes inconvenient for whoever happens to be sitting in that office. Even when you do everything right — schedule an appointment in advance, show up on time, come prepared — you are made to wait 15 to 30 minutes as a baseline. ...Not once. Not twice. Every single time, without exception. This is not a coincidence. This is a pattern, and it is a deliberate one. What makes it truly infuriating is what you witness while you wait. Staff members are visibly free — laughing, chatting, doing nothing of consequence — yet somehow completely unavailable to the resident standing right in front of them. I have waited over an hour for a scheduled meeting that never happened. An entire hour of my day, gone, with zero acknowledgment, zero apology, and zero explanation. This has happened to me on multiple occasions. It is not a bad day. It is not a miscommunication. It is a management team that fundamentally does not respect the residents who pay rent in this building. If you are considering Prairie Shores, understand clearly what you are signing up for: a management office that will waste your time without remorse, and a staff that will look you in the eye and make you wait anyway. I almost crashed my car because I saw a trail of ants coming from my FRESHLY WASHED jacket as I was driving. I pay for a RESERVED pass ($75/mo) and my car was still towed FROM MY RESERVED SPOT. Only half of the washers/dryers ever work at a time, and they don’t work well. $3.50 for a half-done wash and $3 for smelly dryers. Management/leasing NEVER answers the ...phone- you must go over to the leasing office where you’ll be met with annoyed gazes as if your presence is an inconvenience. Half of the residents are college students with remarkably poor hygiene, so the buildings smell like sweaty underarms or strong spices. Disappointed with Prairie Shores: Mishandled Charge
December 31, 2024 - Review from Apartments.comI lived at Prairie Shores for quite some time and, unfortunately, my experience ended on a very disappointing note. After moving out, I received a charge for door repair, which I believe was mistakenly applied. I reached out to request detailed documentation supporting this charge. While Prairie Shores initially responded and assured me they would follow up, I never received the requested information despite sending multiple follow-up emails. Rather than addressing my concerns or providing ...clarification, the charge was forwarded to a collections agency. The collection agency, IQ Data International, contacted me with what they called a "courtesy call" before proceeding with collections. During this call, I explained the situation and the reason for the delayed payment. However, their representative informed me that my only option was to "pay in protest." To make matters worse, I was pressured to make the payment immediately during that call, without being afforded even a single day to review the matter or seek further clarification. I am incredibly disappointed with Prairie Shores’ lack of transparency, communication, and accountability in handling this issue. Additionally, the high-pressure tactics employed by the collection agency felt unfair and unprofessional. She didn’t answer until the next day, then proceeded to simply ask me the same question she had already previously asked me. ...Finally, she asked what day would work for a tour. I suggested the next day again. She emails back saying it’s full, and if the next day would work. I said yes! Whatever times works for you, I’m in… No answer. Next day comes, I follow up. No answer. I currently live in one of their "renovated" units. -Heating issues are terrible here. WGN came out on 1/16/24 due to the excessive complaints of no heat, my own unit is barely 50 degrees currently. Golub/Prairie Shores wasted a ton of money on the "Hub" building instead of replacing these windows that are from the 1950s. -I constantly see ants and tiny bugs in my apartment. My building had a whole building pest ...control happen 2 months after moving in as roaches kept getting seen everywhere. I still see them maybe once or twice a month. -Ground floor units suffer from plumbing issues it seems. My kitchen sink would constantly back up from the sewer. The explanation given was that it just happens to the ground floor units due to all the units above it, which is just not an acceptable answer. -Bathroom faucet constantly leaks out rusty water when it's first turned on. -Freezer would constantly have issues going into a defrost cycle and ruining my food. It was swapped with a new unit, and that new one developed the same defrost issue within 2 months. -Parking is atrocious, and Contract Tow should be ashamed for raising the annual $125 parking fee to $25 flat fee every month (now it's 300 total). You get no guest passes. Winter parking is terrible for guests as King Dr has a winter overnight parking ban. -People here are inconsiderate in general. Laundry machines are communal in the basement (10 washers, 10 dryers) as most units do not have their own laundry units. People will take up more than 3 washers/dryers at a time, and then leave their clothes in there for hours on end. If you don't do your laundry in the early morning or late at night, get ready to have to move peoples laundry out and deal with them crying about it. -Lease renewal is a joke. They jacked my rates up over $150 for a studio. I am moving out shortly, and checked that they listed my studio for the original rent I was paying instead of the lease increase. The Management Office will be opened Monday through Saturday. Spoke with somenamed Demisha who said no one ...was in the office Thursday, Friday, Sat or Sunday. So essentially 3 out of the 4 days that they have posted as open. Again, I was the one who had to constantly call without a response. And after all that ordeal, she tells me that my admin fee will be refunded in the form of a check in 30 days. Ridiculous, how can I be sure that I am going to get a response or even get my $425 if they are very difficult to get a hold of. I also find it extremely frustrating that I was the one that had to chase them down for a response. Please be careful when filing out application to live here as they lack basic business etiquette such as communication and basic customer service skills.
