"Once home to a Native American tribe called the ""Aftalati.""In 1847, Lawrence Hall and his brother claimed the first land that is now known as Beaverton. In the 1860's, the railroad began to expand west from Portland into the area, and the city was formally incorporated."

Unlike other parts of the Pacific Northwest, Beaverton experiences typically cool, dry winters. In fact, between June and September the city rarely receives more than five inches of rain total. The summers are warm and dry, with sunlight dominating 16 hours a day at the peak of summer. Major snowfall during the winter is almost unheard of.

How do I get around town?

Beaverton is an evolved city. Only seven miles to the west of Portland, it has the advantage of being connected by light rail and bus to the major city. Within Beaverton, there are more than twenty bus routes and three rail lines. Still, residents will need a vehicle to get around efficiently.

You can get most places around Beaverton in twenty minutes or less by car. The city is easily accessible from the outer neighborhoods, served by U.S. Highway 26 and Highway 217.
