If you are looking for an apartment building with tons of aesthetic character, this is the place to be. The common areas are kept very clean and modern, but have an old factory charm.
I have been in my apartment for over two months now and I love it. It is huge, full of character, and at a great price. Also, our unit doesn't have another unit below us, so we don't have to worry about making too much noise. We can hear our upstairs neighbors, but it's not too loud and very easy to drone
...out.
Each apartment is individually owned though, so I can't speak for any other apartment. I can imagine that having an inconsiderate neighbor (example: one that is very loud) could cause problems, as it seems the ceilings/floors don't have much insulation to provide a sound barrier. The up-side to that is that the ceilings are awesomely high, making the space seem even larger.
To make a long story short, I would try to see the unit during hours you think people will be around so you can make sure the noise from neighbors isn't too much for you before you sign a contract. Also, all of the common areas are super quiet, which I like, but if you are looking for a place where neighbors are social with each other, this probably isn't the building for you. HOWEVER, there is a cute green right on the river where a lot of community events are hosted, and you can VERY easily walk to it. It's also within a 5 minute drive to a state park with hiking and a small beach on the river.
The only downside for me, personally, is the parking, which is very limited. Each unit is assigned one spot. However, there is generally a lot of free public parking very closeby. In the wintertime, though, shoveling is going to be necessary.
All of that being said, it's exactly what I was looking for and I couldn't have asked for a better fit.
