Location is very convenient to 35E and Cedar. It is a very quiet location, set away from the road. Units have their own washer/dryer, albeit the washer is very small so you'll end up doing more loads than with a traditionally sized washer. Each unit has central air and their own furnace, both pluses. Maintenance requests are handled promptly. The buildings are kept clean in the central areas (foyer, hallways, stairs). Very little modernization has been done to the units since the community
...was built in the 1980's. The cabinetry of the bathrooms and the kitchen is still the original - the fake white art-deco style which is cheap-looking. The units also still have old beige carpet, where newer developments go with hardwood (either real or fake). The garage for each building is set underneath the building, and is kept relatively warm, so this is a plus. Some units have newer appliances (stainless steel) which are more modern, but combined with the dated cabinetry it looks a bit odd. The parking lots have serious issues with pot holes every year after the snow clears off. It's not just a few pot holes, it's more like a war zone. This could be improved upon. The fitness center is barely that. The few pieces of equipment in the room are older than old and most don't work. They shouldn't advertise that they have workout equipment. The units that face towards the lake are very private. There's occasional wildlife that makes appearances which is interesting to see (deer, fox, owls). Being on the lake provides a nice backdrop for walks.
Overall I would recommend living here. The units have all the amenities you want and the community itself is quiet and is in a great location. The downside is the dated-appearance of the units. They will need to start putting money into modernizing (floors, cabinetry, appliances). Regardless of how well maintained, something that is 40 years old will still look 40 years old.
