11 Renters Reviews
  • Great location, terrible building management

    April 25, 2026 - Review from Apartments.com
If you're considering renting here for anything above 2k, RUN. Range Group's property manager is on a mission to do the bare minimum for this property and it shows. The parking lot was "repaved" which consisted of poorly planned weekend of lost access to our parking lot while a CITY MARATHON RAN ON THE STREET NEXT TO US in order to put some low quality sealant on all the alligator cracking going on. The sealant was practically eroded by the next freeze. On the plus side, you can lightly ...
off-road into your $250 parking spot due to all the birdbath potholes. Step out of your car at your new home and get showered with trash or wade through street water, because the maintenance around the property is again, minimal. Every time it rains, access to the parking lot is gone because of the water backup :) Use a butterfly system to enter, skip the consistently out of order Amazon locker and then walk into your unit where you'll be met with floors that haven't been refinished since before Range took over it seems, crackling brick, appliances old enough to go to college, and enough issues that you have to put in a ticket and deal with the back and forth incompetence of a leasing manager and maintenance team that genuinely seem to hate each other. I've rented in multiple states/cities but this experience really takes the cake on absolute audacity. Be warned. This leasing manager will push illegal things day in and day out - learn your RLTO protections.

  • Just awful

    March 7, 2026 - Review from Apartments.com
I don't even know where to start. The units are dated and run-down and Range Group has done nothing to make them worth the exorbitant prices they charge. These units are some of the most expensive in the area and some of the most poorly maintained. In the year that I lived here, my furnace broke (within a month of being here) and had to be completely replaced and the washer/dryer was later replaced for bad bearings. The new ones are also shoddy and cheap, the furnace rattles constantly in ...
particular. The oven igniter broke and literally poisoned me with gas multiple times, the toilet clogs at least a handful of times a month and building maintenance obviously can't handle it; most likely it needs new plumbing work. The sink was actively leaking into the cabinets underneath when I moved in. All of the appliances are well over 20 years old (typical lifespan is 10-12), and when the refrigerator door shelf broke, Range tried to charge me for it. I refused and they just never replaced it. The walls are so thin you can hear neighbors talking, and most neighbors have yappy dogs and/or horrible throat ailments that cause constant, disgusting throat clearing. The outer wall is uninsulated brick that is constantly crumbling and covering anything near it with bits of brick and mortar. The heat loss is staggering. The windows are not sealed correctly and collect a ton of condensation and drip all over. The hardwood was torn up all over the living area when I moved in and it has shed flakes of the old sealant all over. Old appliances, old plumbing fixtures, old lights and switches, old cabinets, all in poor condition and discolored with age. The parking lot is in equally poor condition, and the "discount" for the gym is about 10%. Laughable. Oh, and despite 12-ft ceilings, you're on your own to buy and change the light bulbs.

  • Worst experience ever!

    June 1, 2022 - Review from Apartments.com
Extremely disrespectful, drunk, and loud neighbors. It's unbearable. Rent goes up by every single year.
    • Property Manager Responded

      May 5, 2025
We are very sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. Management prides itself on addressing tenant concerns in a timely and fair manner and hope this does not happen again. In regards to rent increases, this is a standard practice, however, we do offer our tenants "Renewal" specials and discounts to assist with the increase.
  • Overpriced and Under-maintained

    April 28, 2022 - Review from Apartments.com
Do yourself a favor and don’t live here. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear a lot of what your neighbors do. Which means they can hear you too and there’s really no privacy for anyone. There’s also a gym downstairs, so even if your neighbors are silent, you’ll hear weights slamming all day long. The gym uses noxious chemicals on their floor that got upstairs and repeatedly forced people to evacuate their apartments. The water tastes so much like chlorine that it’s barely drinkable ...
unless you invest in a filter. After finding a kind of disease-carrying sewer roach in our unit, we learned from the pest control service that they are not an uncommon occurrence in the building. Our unit was outdated and the finish on our floors was either poorly done or so worn that it would flake off and get all over our skin and furniture. The building is old and needs a lot of repairs, and the landlord fixes everything as cheaply as possible instead of doing it right. At one point the gate to the parking lot broke probably once a week for almost two months before any real repair was made to fix it for good. Aside from the issues with the building and the landlord, some of the neighbors are incredibly disrespectful. Residents regularly had their packages stolen from the package room, and dogs use the hallway and the lobby as a restroom. Despite the deteriorating conditions in the building, the already-high rent was raised at the height of the pandemic when most other buildings offered discounts to their tenants. So yeah, stay away from Bishop St Lofts.

    • Property Manager Responded

      November 9, 2022
This review and the other review posted about the same day are from a disgruntled tenant. The tenant purchased a home and asked if the Landlord could rent the unit early so they could avoid paying both rent and a mortgage. The manager was unable to rent the unit earlier than the lease expiration but still granted a discount of $500 off the rent for the month of overlap. The accommodation was not sufficient for this tenant so they left a nasty review. This tenant stayed in the building for several years, so despite their review they deemed it a good enough building to renew more than once.
    • Property Manager Responded

      May 8, 2025
So sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us. Management has taken steps to ensure the safety, comfort, amenities and appearance of our units. Most of the units are updated and have newer appliances. Additionally, there is a Pet Washing Station, Bike Racks, Roof top deck, Amazon Lockers and gated parking on site. When we are informed of repairs and/or complaints, we address them in a timely manner. Although we do our best to resolve all issues, some occurrences are beyond our control. In those instances, we work with all parties to get a common resolution. It is a standard policy to do annual rent increases, however, we do work with tenants through promotional discounts, upgrades or credits.
  • Don’t be fooled by the positive reviews they received a gift card in exchange for the review.

    April 27, 2022 - Review from Apartments.com
Don’t be fooled by the positive reviews they received a gift card in exchange for the review. If you’re considering moving here, don’t. It is not worth the price. The building has an oriental roach problem- which are a health hazard to people and pets. The walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors and their dogs barking at all times of the day. Some residents let their dogs defecate in the halls and lobby so it usually smells like urine in the common areas and always smells right outside the ...
front door since there isn’t a grassed area anywhere around the building. The building is extremely old and needs a lot of repairs, including plumbing so the water gets shut off often and many times without any notice. Packages get stolen frequently and even someone’s doormat was stolen. The entire first floor is a gym so you’ll hear loud music and heavy weights being dropped everyday. The gym has been using toxic chemicals on their floors that seeped upstairs, resulting in people have to evacuate their own apartment. And xfinity is the only internet provider available and has frequent outages in the area.

  • Amenity Upgrades!

    April 25, 2021 - Review from Apartments.com
Ever since Aries took over management of the building, we have gotten some much needed upgrades! New roof furniture that’s great for hosting and a brand new grill. I don’t have a dog but we now have a industrial dog bath in the old laundry room and a bike rack coming soon. Brett is also very quick to respond whenever we have building issues. The tenants in this building are pretty laid back and it’s a younger crowd. Beautiful exposed brick in every unit.
  • Beautiful spot!

    August 20, 2020 - Review from Apartments.com
I love living here! The unit is just gorgeous & I love being in a neighborhood that has so many locally-owned, family-owned businesses to support. Management has always been very responsive to any questions or requests, and they didn't give me any trouble at all when I got a dog with only 2 days notice. Everyone who lives in the building is also very nice-- I found someone to help me jump-start my car on the first day I moved in!

  • Best apartment I've had in Chicago

    July 13, 2020 - Review from Apartments.com
My boyfriend and I are going on our 3rd year living here! I'm born and raised in chicago and chicago suburbs. I've also lived in 4 different neighborhoods throughout the city and this is by far my favorite neighborhood and apartment. The exposed brick, high ceilings, and spacious storage makes for a great living environment. Management is very responsive (which is rare in chicago) and there has never been any cleanliness issues. The rooftop and location are spot on and perfect. You are soooo ...
close to everything here; bars, grocery stores, restaurants... all short walking distance. I would say the ONLY con is that parking is getting pretty limited now that the neighborhood is getting more popular. There is one side of the street that is permit and the rest of the small street is free. It doesn't help that the public fitness center doesn't notify their members to read the signs. However, this is out of the management control. They also provide a gated off parking lot but its pretty expensive. Aside from that this is the perfect place to live.

  • Loft-living, excellent location

    June 16, 2020 - Review from Apartments.com
We have enjoyed our 4 years at this property for several reasons: the apartments are relatively large and well priced (exposed brick and many have views of downtown Chicago in unit), there is a GREAT shared rooftop space, and the owners have all been responsive whenever we have problems. It is in a wonderful location re walkability and proximity to public transit and amenities like cafes/restaurants. The pet policy here has also been helpful. The new management company have been particularly ...
excellent at responding to requests and making additional upgrades to the building.

    August 17, 2015 - Review from Apartments.com
I've been living in this apartment now for 3 months and I love it. It has a spacious living room and wonderful high ceilings. The location is great. It's right off of 18th which is where the restaurants it's right across the street from a grocery store. It has gated parking and a shared rooftop deck with a great view of the Chicago skyline. The only downsides are the bedroom is small compared to the rest of the apartment, there is minimal storage, and the laundry is in the basement. I would ...
    highly recommend this apartment.
