My apartment has had a flooding issue for nearly two years now, and it is still unresolved. It makes me very anxious knowing my apartment could flood at any time, and there is nothing I can do to stop it. The staff’s handling of the issue has been uncaring and hostile. Multiple members of the staff told me that the flooding issue isn’t a big deal because “flooding in your home happens after a heavy rain.” To me, this felt dismissive and manipulative. property, period. In my opinion, my apartment is uninhabitable, and the people who work here simply do not care.
Here is what happened in the latest flooding incident (two weeks ago), where my bedroom carpet was wet after a heavy rain:
I called the emergency maintenance line and asked for carpet fans (at this point I’ve been through this procedure multiple times). No one ever brought any carpet fans. Now the carpet has a mildewy smell. I called the emergency maintenance line again and asked for someone to come clean my carpet. The person said “OK.” No one ever came. Keep in mind, my apartment has flooded SEVERAL TIMES at this point.
In my experience, Century Lake and its employees lack basic empathy and view tenants as financially exploitable. When I first toured this place, I felt like the quality of the apartments was misrepresented — when I moved in, both the microwave and dishwasher were broken, and the carpets were not vacuumed. I personally had to vacuum several liters of dog hair (which I am allergic to).
Now that I’ve had enough of living in this absolutely atrocious apartment complex, I am now having to pay a $2,900 fee to terminate the lease early. Just to clarify: yes, I have to pay $2,900 just to move out of an apartment that, in my opinion, is uninhabitable due to repeated flooding.
In conclusion: if you choose to stay at Century Lake Apartments, know that if your apartment has a serious flooding problem, in my opinion, no one here will help you. They only care that you keep paying them thousands of dollars every year for (in my experience) supremely low quality apartments.
